Bank of America Branch Plans
Grand Opening Ceremony Tonight
A large throng including various civic officials, bank leaders and local beauties will be on hand tonight as Bank of America holds open house to introduce its new South Anaheim branch to the public.
Mayor A. J. Schutte, Howard Loudon and George Strachan, president and manager respectively of the Chamber of Commerce, and Carol "Miss Anaheim" Dickerson are among those scheduled to participate in the colorful opening ceremonies at 6:45 p.m.
Vice President Ralph E. Windsor, representing the bank's headquarters, will also take part, performing a time honored custom of presenting a gold key of the branch to its manager, C. E. "Buck" Schueller.
Following the ceremonies, the doors of the branch at 1126 S. Los Angeles St. will be opened for the gala celebration from 7 to 9 p.m. Among the attractions at the event will be souvenirs, refreshments, music, unique displays, and a guessing contest. Visitors will also have a chance to inspect the 7,020 square foot branch thoroughly before it is officially opened for business tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock.
One of the top exhibits at tonight's party will be the valuable money collection of Cyrus H. Phillips. Titled "300 Years of American Coinage." The col-

Planners Reject Boarding House
The Anaheim Planning Commission has rejected an application to increase the number of elderly women kept at a boarding house here.
On top of the rejection, Joe Geisler, assistant city attorney, ruled that the boarding house
(Continued from Page 1-A) recently re-elected, did not vote on the contract and that his firm's bid was $13,281.79 higher than the lowest bid submitted.
Now all this is nothing new to reporters. It was duly reported at the time. It also was explained that the board awarded the bid to Hallamore Electronics of Anaheim because a clear understanding about the equipment and services offered far outweighed the low bidder.
It was pointed out at the time to reporters attending the meeting that Jerrold Electronics Co., low bidder, had no listed services and also offered many substitutions for specifications contained in the bid.
Since the board knew the local company, and since Jerrold apparently did not guarantee servicing the system in the contract, the board took the obvious move.
The board's thinking was, if the long run, even though the contract was $13,281.79 higher, it would eventually save the taxpayers money. By dealing with a local firm, to take care of future servicing and expansion in the system, he
One of the top exhibits at tonight's party will be the valuable money collection of Cyrus H. Phillips. Titled "300 Years of American Coinage." The collection traces the history of domestic money from the earliest colonies to the present time. There is special emphasis on the Revolutionary and Civil War periods. Phillips will be present to answer questions about his prized exhibit which has been viewed by over 280,000 Californians in recent years.
In addition to viewing historical money, visitors will have a chance to win some modern-day cash in the Money Missile Contest. A nine-foot rocket with its transparent midsection filled with gold candy coins will be displayed in the branch lobby. The challenge comes in guessing the number of coins inside.
Savings account prizes of $50, $25, $10 and three others will be awarded to those coming closest to the exact number. The contest lasts until July 14 after which the winners will be notified by mail.
Music will be furnished for the open house by D. Fisher of Disneyland fame on the Wurlitzer organ.
Those attending will receive a souvenir of the occasion. There will be pens for the adults and balloons for the children.
"We expect to greet all our many friends in Anaheim and the surrounding area," said Manager Schueller. "I hope everyone will plan to be with us to take part in the Money Missile Contest and the other fun-filled activities tonight."
South Anaheim branch is the bank's sixth in Anaheim, its 25th in Orange County, and its 720th in California.

The principal of Howell Boarding House
The Anaheim Planning Commission has rejected an application to increase the number of elderly women kept at a boarding house here.
On top of the rejection, Joe Geisler, assistant city attorney, ruled that the boarding house is presently operating in violation of city ordinance.
The rejection and ruling about the non-compliance with the code came after a hearing before the planning commission on application by Mrs. Tom Hembree, 1837 W. Cerriitos.
Residents in nearby area protested the petition to increase the number of residents at the home and questioned its presence.
YMCA Offering Swimming Class
A swimming program of summer fun and safety for children is now underway at the Anaheim YMCA under the direction of Gretchen Decker, Y aquatic director.
Swimming instruction in classes for beginners from 6 to 8 years, 8 to 10, and tiny tots from 3 to 5 are now forming.
Classes are tentatively scheduled to begin the first and second weeks in July.
Second sessions will be organized if there are sufficient requests.
Adoption Clan Opens Campaign
Mrs. William E. Klinger, chairman of advisory board for Orange County Holy Family Adoption Service, Santa Ana, announced the "kick-off" for the fund-raising campaign for 1961-62 at a meeting with the financial committee this week.

The board's thinking was, in the long run, even though the contract was $13,281.79 higher, it would eventually save the taxpayers money. By dealing with a local firm, to take care of future servicing and expansion in the system, the board took the "business-wise" action.
It also was pointed out by Robert E. Shanks, superintendent of schools, that Snow did not participate in any decisions concerning the awarding of the contract bid. This was done in accordance with advice from the County Counsel's office.
Now two years later the Grand Jury votes an investigation of the matter.
From where we sit there nothing to investigate. Everything was out in the open there and still is today. It is duly corded in local newspapers and minutes of meetings on the contract bid.
What the Grand Jury should do is spend more time reading the newspapers and less effort trying to "dig up dead issues."

(Continued from Page 1-A) old-fashioned picnic lunch will be held. Those attending are asked to bring a basket lunch.
John Burdick's Buccaneer will entertain.
Abel Fernandez of television's "The Untouchables" will introduce former State Sen Nelson S. Dilworth who will deliver an address.
The day will conclude with an exhibition baseball game after a program of games.
