YMCA Camp Opens Sign-ups
Camp Osceola and Day Camp Sign-up Week began Tuesday this week and continues through June 20, according to Richard W. Gay, Anaheim YMCA area president.
Campers from Anaheim, Magnolia and Savanna areas will visit the United Fund related YMCA, 121 S. Citron St.
Boys 9-15 years of age will attend Camp Osceola in the San Bernardino Mountains. Boys and girls 6-11 years of age will take part in six day camp periods from June 26 through August 11.
According to Gay, athletic and building facilities at Camp Osceola have been expanded since the last camp season; friends expect to complete a Anaheim Y members and new duplex staff building in time for the summer camp season. Trained leadership headed by a full-time YMCA staff will direct the campers divided into small cabin groups.
The expanded adventure day camp provides for picking up campers near their homes and for daily planned activities under trained leadership dedicated to child care and development.
Complete information may be secured by phoning the Anaheim YMCA, KE 5-2165.

County GOP
Tells Plans
For Roundup
Strolling troubadours, dancing, sack races, beer drinking contest, games and prizes are just a few of the fun features of the "All-County Roundup" sponsored by the Orange County Young Republicans Friday, June 16. The festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Union Oil picnic grounds in Brea.
Barbecued 16-ounce steaks broiled to your taste with all the trimmings and all the beer and soda you can drink are included in the $3 admission donation. A weekend in Las Vegas, an airplane trip around Orange County, a free portrait and a professional hairstyling are among the prizes to be given away during the evening.
Fire Losses
Go Up Here
Losses arising from miscellaneous fires in Orange County rose to a high of $499,194 in 1960, according to the Orange County Lathing Bureau.
"Much of the loss could have been avoided, or lessened, if more consideration had been given to the importance of fire-retardent construction and fire protection devices such as sprinkler systems," a Bureau spokesman said.

Marine Capt. Walter C. Hay, son of Melbourne C. Hay of 1707 E. South St., is serving with the First Marine Division from Camp Pendleton, participating in Phase III of "Exercise Green Light" off the coast of California.
This phase of the exercise involves Navy and Marine Corps undersea, surface, air and ground forces, supported by minesweepers of the Royal Canadian Navy.
Highlight of the operation is a large scale amphibious landing by the Marine division in the Camp Pendleton area. The landing force will be supported by an amphibious task force and aircraft.
The first visit since Christmas 1959 by the attack aircraft carrier USS Midway to Japan's largest seaport at Kobe was concluded recently.
Among the 3700 crewmen aboard the carrier was Donald W. Spaulding, gunner's mate second class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Spaulding of 1115 W. Broadway.
The Midway crew left behind them operational responsibilities and thronged ashore during the six-day period to visit the tri-cities of Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto, the cultural and shrine capitol of Japan.
The carrier departed her home port at Alameda Feb. 15 and since has visited Hawaii.
