We have a clipping this week from Mrs. L. R. McNany of 1922 Margie Lane, Anaheim, entitled "The Tragedy of Progress."
The clipping is a column by Donald McDonald, a newspaper columnist from Pittsburgh, Pa. And it is more than interesting to this writer, who also hails from the Iron City but has spent the last 12 years in Southern California.
Mrs. McNany wants to know whether we have an answer to McDonald who decries the great growth and progress in Anaheim the past 19 years since he first visited the area for the first time.
To quote from McDonald:
"The other day in the real estate section of a metropolitan newspaper there appeared an Associated Press feature article on Anaheim, Calif., which made me wince.
"The article was intended as (Continued on Page 4-A)
Study Sought
Smith, Powell & Morgridge will be asked by Anaheim for more detailed statement of the work it completed on the $15,-000 civic center study.
Because of the many endless chain schemes being conducted through the mail at this time, the illegality of such schemes is again brought to the attention of the patrons of the Anaheim post office in a statement by Postmaster Marshall N. McFie.
Those who participate in such activities may be subject to criminal prosecution under the postal lottery and fraud laws. He said it makes no difference whether the lists are circulated through the mail or passed from hand to hand, if the money, bonds, etc., are mailed, there is a violation of the law.

Ads in Yearbook May Be Banned
Advertising may be kept out of the yearbooks of the four high schools in the city and another new policy under study may outlaw private business firms from providing free football programs to the schools.
These new policies are being studied by the Anaheim Union High School District this week.
An order to make up revenues received from advertisers the price of yearbooks will be raised.
The plaintiffs in suit to foreclose hundreds of trust deeds on property across the street from Disneyland have won a preliminary victory in Superior Court.
A small group of investors who purchased trust deeds from Los Angeles Trust Deed and Mortgage Exchange have sued Capitol Estate and other owners of the proposed commercial-type apartment development southwest of the intersection of Katella Ave. and Harbor Blvd.
The defendants sought dismissal of the case on grounds it was an improper case for small group to act as representatives for hundreds of others.

Five Anaheim High School textbooks, under fire by citizens for "pink leanings," have been tentatively withdrawn from the list of books for approval by the district board of trustees.

The City Council is convinced the county is overcharging Anaheim for certain services.
The City has instructed the Orange County branch of League of Cities to investigate the situation.
