The series will be offered in two locations: afternoons at the Wilshire Junior High School auditorium in Fullerton and evenings in Anaheim at the John C. June 29—"The Little Fugi-pathos of a small boy's adventive," a vignette of childhood experience, the humor and ture at Coney Island. It was given the Silver Lion Award at the Venice International Film Festival. With it will be shown "The Song of the Prairie." July 13—"The Curious Adventures of Mr. Wonderbird." a feature-length French cartoon, on the surface a clever fantasy. Underneath is woven some subtle and pointed political barbs at dictatorships, police states, slave labor and underground cities. With it will be shown "Night in a Pet Shop." July 20—"Louisiana Story," a 1948 documentary feature directed by Robert Flaherty. A young Cajun boy plays, hunts, fishes, battles a giant alligator and follows the drama of a monster oil-derrick probing for petroleum. With it will be shown "The Shepherd," photographed on the grassy uplands of the British Columbia interior, and "La Merle," a Norman McLaren treatment of the old French-Canadian nonsense song. July 27—"The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T." A highly stylized story of a boy's nightmarish dread of his piano lessons and teacher featuring Hans Connor. "All we brought back with us were some artifacts and pieces from the wreckage of the ship," said skin diver-photographer Robert Rutherford of Anaheim. Previous reports published in one county daily newspaper stated flatly the expedition had come back with $2 million in gold. Rutherford and 15 other divers, each of whom shared expenses, had chartered the 85-foot schooner "Double Eagle" in order to salvage an old sunken peddle-wheel steamer 260 miles south of border on the Pacific side of Lower California. July 27—"The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T." A highly stylized story of a boy's nightmarish dread of his piano lessons and teacher featuring Hans Conreid as the humorous villain. Dr. Terwilliker. With it will be shown "A Chairy Tale," an original kind of ballet between a youth and a kitchen chair which refuses to be sat on. The matter is left up to the city and residents are billed for service. If Jaycox is unable to make it under current conditions, then councilmen should get another firm to do their trash collecting. If councilmen agree with Jaycox it will mean that the 55-gallon drums, now in use, would have to be scrapped. The outlay for new containers by property owners would total some $100,000. If Jaycox is so interested in the lesser size—meaning less work and more profit for his firm—then he should supply the containers. If not, then councilmen should back residents who apparently favor the current size. KNOWLAND SPEAKS It was again a pleasure to see former Sen. William F. Knowland, commencement speaker at Chapman College exercises last weekend. He hurled new challenge at 189 graduates. He said the students are launching themselves into troubled work, with communist conspiracy from abroad dedicated to bury them.
