Anaheim Plans Hi Neighbor Day Hi Neighbor On Saturday May 20 thousands of Agedelmers will meet in La Palma Park for a fun-packed celebration of the third annual Hi Neighbor Day Festival. Hi Neighbor Day is the Anaheim Lions Club's plan to have neighbors meet each other. More than 8,000 new residents have swelled the city's official population to 112,000 persons, and May 20 is the day new residents and "old timers" can get together as neighbors and friends. The day will be packed with family entertainment. Square dance exhibitions will vie with fashion show, kiddle rides, pop professional entertainment, sports and contests for youngsters and adults, and a rich helping of glamour in a contest to choose the Hi Neighbor Day Queen. Newcomers to Anaheim will see representation of the city's community life and activities in booth displays by more than 50 organizations, churches, schools, service clubs and civic organizations. Hi Neighbor Day chairman for the Lions Club this year is Bob Wetzler. Timing and scheduling for the action-packed day of family fun are being coordinated by Leavitt Ford and Jerry Marks. "The people in most cities," said Wetzler, "are like strangers living among strangers. Newcomers find it hard to make friends." "The purpose of Hi Neighbor Day is to have these folks stop being strangers—to meet each other, have a good time, get acquainted with the many wonderful groups in Anaheim, make friends and become good neighbors." In addition to the full day of family fun and entertainment, some lucky neighbor will win the grand prize, a round-trip for two to Hawaii. "Mark your calendar now," urged Wetzler, "and bring the family out to La Palma Park for Hi Neighbor Day."
