Date Set For School Reunion A tentative date has been set for the reunion party of the Anaheim Union High School graduates, class of 1951. The 10-year reunion has been spearheaded by Mrs. Mally Brummet Reed, with the assistance of planning committee members: Jim Ball, Jerry Dickenson, Neva Wedin Duncan, Phoebe Merriam Gray, Pat Brooks Huenemeyer and Russell Noe. Local Gardeners Meet Tomorrow Mrs. Irwin North Jr., president, will be hostess to the Garden Club of Anaheim when they meet in her home, 310 Tower, tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The program will be presented by J. W. Williams of the Tucker Bird Sanctuary. He will speak on "Birds in the Garden." Assisting Mrs. North will be Mmes. Wilbur Bonney, John Clark and M. Miller as co-hostesses. Tri-Hi-Y Girls Tab Officers Fremont Junior Tri Hi Y Clubs will hold their council election tonight during their regular meeting time. Girls from the following clubs have taken out petitions to date. ANAHEIM GAZETTE ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Awards Dinner Set By Soroptimists Soroptimist Club of Anaheim will hold their Mary Gore Service Awards dinner Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Disneyland Gourmet Restaurant. The first awards dinner was held in May of 1960. This plan of award presentation was originated in the club by the late Mrs. Mary Gore, president of the club in 1960. The members voted to continue the dinner annually, naming it in her memory. "We are climaxing a strenuous year of real satisfying service," state President Mrs. Jerry Bennett. Mrs. Bennett will present at the dinner an award of $100 to the American Field Service to be accepted by Jay DeDapper. The first $1000 of a three-year $3000 pledge to the Orange County Children's Hospital will be accepted by Richard W. Taylor. Miss Anne for the evening. Her theme will carry out the spirit of service. Committee members for dinner are Mrs. Marg Weed general chairman; sub-committee chairmen: Mesdames Ma Renstrom, Phyllis Schroedel, Alice Scoby, Jean Lamph May Rich and Betty Brandt. Navy Mothers Congratulated By Kennedy Commander Audrie Roye representing the Anaheim Navy Mothers, recently contacted White House in Washington D.C., requesting a photograph of President John F. Kenne County Miss America pageant in five years with the Resmo, Miss California and first runner-up Miss American title, and Nancy Ann Fleming, America, 1961. Grandmothers Host Party With 16 charter members and 57 members, the Grandmothers Club of Anaheim celebrated its fifth anniversary this week at O'Garrity's Restaurant, 3030 Lincoln Ave. Besides participating in various card games, the club members enjoyed a gala chicken luncheon. Mrs. Maxine Ownby, president, gave a report on the tour of the Martin Luther Hospital and luncheon, with 21 members attending. Attending the Southern California Conference at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles recently were Mrs. Jessie Vance, Rose Heinlein, Anna Arbogash and Mrs. Ownby. In memory of Bonnie Ramsey and Margaret Cairns, recognition was taken of the deceased members during the meeting. She is the Soroptimist having made the most outstanding contribution to the club and the community in the past year. The trophy was donated by and named for Mrs. Mabel Showalter of the Downey Soroptimist Club, the extension chairman for the chartering of the Anaheim club in 1955. Mrs. Showalter will present this trophy to the winner. Ora Pate Stewart, noted lecturer, will be the guest speaker Commander Audrie Royer representing the Anaheim Nassau Mothers, recently contacted the White House in Washington D.C., requesting a photograph of President John F. Kennedy for the club and another for Godwin Bendrat, a German biologist with whom she stood as witness for naturalization. President Kennedy sent speedy reply to Mrs. Royer with best wishes to the Naples Mothers in their help to many new citizens they had assisted in fellowship and with gifts. Both photos were received; the one for Godwin was especially autographed. Through the USAFI Godwin was able to complete his education. Dedicate Hospital Governor Edmund G. Brown will be the principal speaker during the dedication of Fairview State Hospital in Cosmesta, on May 6 at 2 p.m., was announced this week. School Employes Hold Dinner Meet School Maintenance and Operations Employes of Orange County held their monthly dinner meeting this week at the Chungking Cafe, 327 E. Center St., it was announced by Herb Bass, publicity chairman from Centralia School District. Guest speaker for the afternoon was a representative from the Minneapolis Honeywell Company, addressing the group on "Heat Control." Engagement Mr. and Mrs. Tony De Lao of 14261 Wagner Ave. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Mary, to Abelardo Melgoza, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gil Melgoza of Santa Ana. The bride-elect is a student at Anaheim High School. Melgoza is a graduate of Santa Ana High School.
