NEW ADDITION TO CITY—Little four-year-old Sandy Meir seems a little reluctant about taking her first steps on the mirror-clear ice at the new Glacier Falls skating rink at 211 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim. Melinda Lelliott and Rick Mullican, prefossionals at the rink, try to reassure the little girl, but all their help was to no avail . . . Sandy just wouldn't skate.
Navy League Opens Beauty Contest
Miss Trudy Hale, Miss Los Alamitos Naval Air Station for 1961, has become the first contestant in the Miss Orange County-Miss Navy League contest within the Miss America Contest, R. Ken Wines, president of the Fullerton-Anaheim Navy League Council, announced today.
The franchise for the contest—first for Orange County since 1956—was obtained by the Navy League last week.
The winner of contest here will represent Orange County in the Miss California contest under the auspices of the Miss America Pageant.
A total of $250,000 in educational scholarships has been announced as prizes for this year's Miss America contest which will be awarded to participating girls on local, state and national levels.
The local contest for the Miss Orange County-Miss Navy League title will be held May 13 in the Sunny Hills Swim Stadium, Fullerton.
Girls will be judged in evening gowns and swim suits. Another important division in the judging will be the talent contest. Each contestant will be allowed three minutes to perform on the stage with the talent of her choice.

An Anaheim man is one of the four persons arrested charges they had billed 3,000 persons out of a total of least $1 million in conduct a cancer cure clinic in Los Angeles.
Forest S. Schnickedanz, of 1017 N. Gilbert, is charged with others with conspiracy commit grand theft and adverse fraudulently.

City Youths In Exercise
Two local youths are participating in a large U.S. Pacific Fleet exercise nicknamed "Green Light," conducted by the U.S. First Fleet, commanded by Vice Admiral C. L. Melson.
Navy Lt. Robert L. Glenn, son of Mrs. Lee Lamb of 631 Barnsdale St., is serving with Anti-Submarine Squadron 25 aboard the anti-submarine warfare support aircraft carrier USS Yorktown operating out of Long Beach.
Marine Pfc. Howard M. Sliker, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Sliker of 1297 Riviera St., is serving with the First Marine Brigade at the Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneoha Bay, Hawaii.
These exercises are designed to further increase the readiness and mobility of the U.S. First Fleet and keep it prepared to move anywhere at any time in its role of preserving peace.
Applications Open for New Principal
Applications for the position of principal are being accepted by the Centralia School District, part of which is in Anaheim, William Almand, president of the board, announced today.
"The opening of the George B. Miller School in the fall," Almand stated, "makes the appointment of an additional school administrator necessary."
Besides the required credential, applicants should have a teaching background, some administrative experience, and the ability to work well with others. Almand said. Applicants should be roughly between the ages of 32 and 45 and possess a Master's Degree or equivalent.
"Standards set up by the board for the selection of school personnel provide for a thorough screening process whereby the qualifications of each applicant are carefully examined," Almand stated. "Board policy of employing only highly qualified personnel has paid dividends to the district."
Schools Offer Scholarships
Screening of candidates Communities Scholarships begin soon at Anaheim Western High Schools, office of the Anaheim District School Communities Assn., announced last week.
More than 30 scholarships ranging in value from $200 are available to win VFW Post 9847 of Cyprus; the most recent scholarship nar with an award of $100 go to leading scholars that area.
Application blanks for scholarships are available Anaheim and Wetsern Schools.
Lecture Series
Walter D. Cocking, education leader, will converse lecture series for educational leaders at Orange City State College. Fullerton April 26 with "Learning the Learner." His final lecture "The Role of Leadership May 24. Both lectures are p.m., room 701, at the campus, 800 N. Cypress A."
