High School Candidates (Continued from Page 1-A) the board policies should reflect the educational wishes of the community. A. S. Hecht Jr. "I have been complacent long enough. It is not a privilege, but a duty to serve on the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees." This is the way Albert S. Hecht Jr. looks at his decision to seek one of the four seats on the board. He also feels there is a flagrant use of power and direction by school boards, not particularly Anaheim's, to go to the teacher's level. He feels that teachers are not being represented properly at the school board level. As he puts it, "You should go down on the production line and take a look." Ben Shroeder Incumbent, Ben Shroeder is seeking his second term on the Anaheim Union High School Board. During the past four years he has earned a reputation for his forthright viewpoints on how the district should be operated. Shroeder, who is sales manager at Electra Motors, views the operation of the district as an $8 million business, and he points to his past record as an indication of how his actions have reflected his viewpoint. The record shows that he and other board members have con- craft, Waliga is a member of the Anaheim Boosters Club and the Anaheim Lodge No. 1345, B.P.O. Elks. He has also held industrial positions as a tool, machine and methods designer. "I can't get anything done, so I am running for both boards," Ward said. Mrs. J. Brooks Mrs. John W. Brooks is the only woman seeking a seat on the Anaheim Union High School Board of Trustees. She believes that students in the district be given a basic education, emphasizing academic studies, but tailored to meet the requirements of the individual students. She also believes in well-trained, and adequately paid teaching and administrative staffs. She feels that the best physical facilities and equipment should be made available to the teachers and students of the district. Mrs. Brooks was born in Marceline, Missouri, where she attended public schools. She attended the University of Southern California and has lived in California since 1930. She has been a resident of Orange County since 1949. Don R. Langson Builder, developer and businessman Don Langson is seeking his second term on the Anatrict Board of Trustees. heim Union High School Dis- Bank Manager Selected as Vice President JACK TROUT Jack Trout, manager of the Anaheim branch of Home Savings and Loan Association, has elected an assistant vice president in the firm, Kenne D. Childs, president, has a nounced. Trout became manager of the Anaheim office of the nation's largest savings and loan association last August, and prized that had served as assistant to the manager there since November 1959. Under Trout's leadership, the Anaheim branch of Home Savings years he has carried a reputation for his forthright viewpoints on how the district should be operated. Shroeder, who is sales manager at Electra Motors, views the operation of the district as an $8 million business, and he points to his past record as an indication of how his actions have reflected his viewpoint. The record shows that he and other board members have constructed numerous schools, improved business procedures, set textbook policies, and lowered the total tax rate even though enrollment has increased from 6,000 to 16,000 students. He also shows the district has kept high school students from double sessions. Dr. C. Ross Dean Dr. C. Ross Dean, a veterinary practitioner and resident of Anaheim for the past 10 years, is seeking a seat on the Anaheim Union High School Board of Trustees for two reasons. First, for the next seven years he'll have one of his children attending a district school, and the second is that he "wants to see all of the children of our community" have excellent educational advantages. He strongly feels that the teacher-student relationship is the heartbeat of the school system, and that the heartbeat must be felt by a high morale of teacher and student, a loyal school spirit and a keen desire for knowledge on the part of the student. He adds, "With this kind of teamwork, we can have the best school system of our entire nation." Andrew Waliga Jr. "I have a strong personal conviction that membership on the board requires complete dedication to those sound educational principles which best serve the interests of the individual and our country," stated Andrew Waliga Jr. He believes teachers should be as free as possible from non-teaching assignments. Waliga has resided in Anaheim for the past 6½ years with his wife and two children. Don R. Langson Builder, developer and businessman Don Langson is seeking his second term on the Anatrict Board of Trustees. The former World War II flver feels that the present incumbents on the board can show their record of accomplishments and that the citizens in the district can judge from this record if they wish them re-elected. This record includes construction of schools, streamlining of business operations, keeping all senior high schools from double sessions, and lowering the tax rate even though enrollment has jumped enormously. Langson, like the other incumbents, views the operation of the district as an $8 million buusiness. He feels that this is one of the most important considerations that can be made by a board member. Royal Marten "We've still got a long way to go and we're not through vet." That's the way Royal Marten summed up his views about the Anaheim Union High School Board of Trustees he has served on for the past four years. Marten reviews the task of operating the district with enthusiasm and feels there is "no drudgery" involved. He said he enjoys working with the other board members because of the "spirit and cooperation." Marten has spent nearly his complete life with schools and school operation. He has been a teacher of practically all levels and presently is a sociology and history instructor at Santa Ana College.
