Maurer Seeks Re-Election To School Board Jack Maurer, incumbent member of the Centralia School District board of trustee, this week announced he would seek re-election. Having served on the board for three years, Maurer gave as his reasons for seeking re-election his confidence "that the majority of decisions made by the incumbent board, particularly those in the areas of personnel, curriculum and finance, have been wise ones." "And," he added, "because I jealously guard and defend the policies and standards of the district and want them to be perpetuated." An officer of the Retail Clerks Union, Maurer and his wife and four children reside in Buena Park where he is treasurer of the Rotary Club and a member of four Parent-Teacher Associations. He is a past director of the Buena Park United Fund and a former member of the Park and Recreation Commission. CHP Chief Cites Emergency Call CHP Chief Cites Emergency Call Number Purpose ZEnith 1-2000. Remember that number if you must report a traffic emergency. But don't use it if your call is not of an emergency nature, California Highway Patrol Commissioner Crittenden reminded this week. "The ZEnith 1-2000 number is reserved for reporting traffic accidents and other roadway emergencies," he said. "If you use it for routine calls you may block the line just when someone else is attempting to call in an emergency." To report an emergency, he said, just dial the operator and ask for ZEnith 1-2000, telling her you want to report an emergency. She will connect you with the nearest Highway Patrol office. This procedure should be followed to report accidents in unincorporated areas and on most freeways. Accidents within cities usually will be handled by municipal police agencies. If in doubt, call ZEnith 1-2000 and the Patrol will dispatch an officer or notify the proper agency.
