A6—Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Thursday, Feb. 16, 1961 News About Our Service Men Army Pvt. Ronnie J. Williams, former Western High School student, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred T. Harper of Buena Park, recently participated with the Fourth Armored Division's Exercise Winter Shield II in Germany. More than 60,000 U.S. Army, German and French troops were engaged in the annual Seventh Army training maneuvers. Williams is a cannoneer in the 16th Artillery, stationed at Schwabisch Gmund, Germany. James M. Bermingham, equipment operator second class and husband of the former Miss Alida Nault of 800 W. Orangethorpe Ave., is participating in Operation Deep Freeze 1961 at the Naval Air Facility, McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. He is assigned to the naval support forces at McMurdo, the principal sea and air cargo James M. Bermingham, equipment operator second class and husband of the former Miss Alida Nault of 800 W. Support personnel maintain remote stations on the continent where scientific research programs are conducted by civilian experts. Marine Pfc. James A. Bardiav, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Coin of 3104 W. Landacta Ln., is now serving with the Marine detachment aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Hancock, operating with the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. Alfredo E. Arciniaga, radioman third class, son of Mrs. and Mrs. E. F. Arciniaga of 900 E. Broadway, is now serving aboard the anti-submarine warfare support aircraft carrier USS Hornet operating out of Long Beach. The Hornet, flagship for Commander Carrier Division 12, recently returned from a seven-month tour with the Seventh Fleet in the Westerrn Pacific. James S. McHale, airman apprentice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle C. McHale of 717 Aluy St., is now serving at the Navy's Pacific Missile Range, Point Mugu. Anaheim Soldier Attends Retreat Army PFC Ronald L. Shelton, 20, son of Lloyd Shelton, 825 Neptune St., recently attended a five-day religious retreat at the Army's Far East retreat near Seoul, Korea. Protestant, Catholic and Jewish chaplains alternate planning the program of the retreats, which include group discussions, individual conferences and guided tours of areas near the site. Purpose of the retreat is to provide the soldier with an opportunity to mediate and discuss religious matters with a chaplain of his faith. Shelton, assigned to the 45th Engineer Group's Headquarters Company, entered the Army in April 1959. Funds will be divided $1,500,000 for new churches and $1,000,000 for Cal Western, a rapidly growing seven-year-old Methodist-related university with an enrollment of 1,650 students. Preliminary research has shown denominational leaders that 241 to 722 new churches must be founded by 1970 if the Southern California-Arizona Conference is to keep pace with population growth.
