State Senator Like it or not, if the present economic and government spending trend continues, you'll be paying more state taxes next year. This was evident following a report from H. Alan Post, legislative analyst, who has the job of advising the Legislature of unnecessary and excessive requests of all items in the state budget. Post called for a $68 million cut in the proposed $2.6 billion budget this year and told the Senate Finance Committee "if the trend of spending continues as urged by Governor Brown, Californians are faced with more taxes." Gov. Brown, of course, has stated publicly that he hopes to hold the line and denies new taxes are necessary. We, of course, will be around to make sure he does hold the line, if possible by our minority group. The only remaining debt is $55 million owed the Architecture Revolving Fund which he hopes to pay off with new sales tax revenues just coming in from the Christmas sales and the state income tax returns.
