CRIME INCREASE IN COUNTY'S UNINCORPORATED AREA TOLD Statistics showing a sharp increase in criminal activity in the unincorporated areas of Orange County during the last year has been released by Sheriff James A. Musick. Major crimes increased 24 percent over the total reported during 1959, said Musick, while lesser totals were shown for robbery and auto theft, an increase of 29 percent was experienced in the number of burglaries committed and a 24 percent increase in the number of larcenies. Six murders were reported and investigated to successful conclusion, as compared to three during 1959. Lesser crimes totaled 10,327, an increase of over 29 percent of bad checks and sex offenses reported is shown with Vehicle Code violations playing a major role in boosting the lesser crime totals. Some decrease in offenses of drunkenness and drunk driving are noted. A total of $362,336.86 of property was reported stolen, reflecting the increase in burglaries and larcenies, showing an increase in this value for the first time since 1956. Recently 240 city employees attended four training sessions on public relations, held for them by representatives of the Southern Counties Gas Company and the Pacific Telephone Company. The first two sessions dealt with personal contact with the public, and the second two with the importance of telephone courtesy and the valuable steps of proper telephone usage. Carl Hatfield, city administrative analyst, who arranged and conducted the programs, explained their purpose thusly: Keep 'Go-Carts' Off of Streets Warns CHP Captain F. E. Winchell of the California State Highway Patrol here has issued a warning to parents to keep the tiny, motorized vehicles of their children off of streets and highways. The "go-carts," said Winchell, are barred from public thoroughfares because they do not meet the requirements of the vehicle code in regard to lights, brakes, turning signals, horns and mufflers. Each time a citizen contacts a city employee, either in person or by telephone, the employee projects not only the image of himself but of the City of Anaheim. We want this image to be one of interest, respect and courtesy." Vets Warned On Mailing of Questionnaires Many disabled veterans, widows and orphans of this area have been mailing questionnaires received this month to the wrong address, the Veterans Administration announced this week. They have been sent to Chicago address which was printed on the envelopes in which the cards were sent out, whereas they should have been mailed to the Los Angeles Regional VA office at 1380 South Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles 25, the announcement said. Because it contained no instructions for those who may have thus mis-addressed their questionnaires, it is assumed that the announcement was in CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY PATROL here has issued a warning to parents to keep the tiny, motorized vehicles of their children off of streets and highways. Because it contained no instructions for those who may have thus mis-addressed their questionnaires, it is assumed that the announcement was intended as a warning to those who have yet to mail them. Selff and Mrs. Barbara Keyes, of Anaheim. Broaden the authority for multi-use planning in engineering studies of ways to protect lands along rivers from floods. Voluminous complaints from California that river banks in places with strong scenic attractions are being "stripped" of trees and brush to facilitate levee maintenance have been received, it was stated. One hundred Anaheim junior high school students recently honored the four visitors at a semi-formal dance, held in the Albert Schweitzer School. The Monterey students were honored for their participation in a drive of Parks and Recreation clubs for junior high school student members. Activities planned this weekend for the Monterey teenagers include a trip to Disneyland Saturday; breakfast at Aunt Jemima's; attending the showing of "Spartacus" in Hollywood, Saturday evening; and attending church Sunday morning in this area. Next week Leslie Selff and Barbara Spiker of Dale Junior High School and Tony DeFazio of Walker will be guests of the Monterey Parks and Recreation Department, spending an exciting weekend which will include attending the Bing Crosby Golf Tourney.
