Orange County Business Will Lead Nation, Claim Business conditions in Orange County will be substantially brighter than those of the entire nation during the year. This is the opinion of J. E. Hoeft, president of the Glendale Federal Savings and Loan Association, expressed here at ceremonies marking the move of the association's Fullerton branch office to newly completed quarters. Hoeft said that "reduced auto sales, substantial technological unemployment and cautious consumer spending attitudes will help lengthen the current business slowdown at the national level." Orange County, however, will remain relatively unaffected "because of the county's steady influx of new residents, and due to the establishment of new ideas and new industries," he said. His optimism, Hoeft declared, is based on what he termed "booming population growth and industrial expansion which will see the addition of 75,000 people during the year." "Our company anticipates the building of 25,000 new homes in Orange County during 1961," he said, "and we believe that 60 percent of the homes Average Sales Tax Deduction Table Offered A table reflecting the average sales tax deduction claimed by taxpayers in the preparation of their 1960 Federal income tax returns has been offered by Robert A. Riddell, district Internal Revenue director. It is for use by taxpayers who itemize their deductions on either Form 1040 or 1040W, and who reside in the 12 Southern California counties. Riddell reminds that the law requires taxpayers to substantiate any deduction claimed on their returns if requested by the Internal Revenue Service to do so. Ordinarily, however, they will not be asked to produce records to support sales tax deduction claimed unless the amount stated exceeds that shown in the table. Taxpayers who use the standard deduction in lieu of itemizing their deductions or use Form 1040A may not use His optimism, Hoeft declared, is based on what he termed "booming population growth and industrial expansion which will see the addition of 75,000 people during the year." "Our company anticipates the building of 25,000 new homes in Orange County during 1961," he said, "and we believe that 60 percent of the homes will be financed by insured savings and loan associations."
