In every city, down the side street off the main drag, you'll find an old restaurant, shabby, dull, run down and tired looking. A place that has no glare, tinsel, or polish, and the only reason for its existence is to cater to people who still enjoy the art of good eating, where the food is rich, heavy, and full flavored, and every dinner is an 8-course feast, complete from beginning to end, in a typical Italian style. Such a place you'll find at DE PALMA'S
LITTLE ITALY
910 E. Willow Signal Hill.
Remember, that to take time to eat, is to take time to live.

Last Friday eve, a friend, Fern Ison, and I went on the town ... celebrating her birthday. First we stopped at the new SWISS VILLAGE in L.B. Owned by those talented Swiss gentlemen, Herman, Hans and Edwin Gienzen-danner (you may remember them from the Cellar Room at the Wilton, L.B.). We had dinner: Saurbraten (Swiss, German and American food is featured here) and real good too. With the entree were some little gadgets, like fried dumplings, and they tasted great with red cabbage and salad. The music was fine with community singing. Even the waitress yodeled. Lots of atmosphere and fun.

GUIDE TO GREAT ENTERAINMENT...
Stan Rossi's ANSTAY'S STEAK HOUSE, Stanton....
The fabulous Don Lucas (so long at the Mardi Gras in Orange).
ANSTAY'S serves luncheons, dinners and features dancing and entertainment
With Jimmy Sills at the Wilton, L.B.). . . We had dinner: Saurbraten (Swiss German and American food is featured here) and real good too. . . With the entree were some little gadgets, like fried dumplings, and they tasted great with red cabbage and salad. . . The music was fine with community singing. . . Even the waitress yodeled. . . Lots of atmosphere and fun.... Then to VICTOR HUGO (next door) and it was really jumping. . . The food is excellent here (check the reasonable prices on their ad). . . Buddy Reed was terrific as usual. . . He has just recorded (45 RPM long playing) the new State song of Nevada, "I'd rather be in jail in Nevada than King of any place on earth." (WOW!) . . It can be bought at Humphrey's music store in L.B. (for this free plug I think Humphrey's should give me a record, don't you?).
While at VICTOR HUGO I heard a guest of Buddy's sing, and he is truly wonderful. . . I will predict that Gary Hough will go far as he is not only extremely talented but young and handsome with a boyish appeal. . . Gary tells me that he started singing on radio at the age of 8 'til 14, Western type. . . Then from 14 to 21, popular . . . now at the ripe old age of 23 (I understand that Shirley gave him a surprise birthday party Sunday) he now sings opera. . . Gary can sing bass, baritone and tenor. . . He aspires to be a dramatic operatic tenor. . . This boy is the greatest and can really put over a romantic ballad.
ROBERTS ROOM,
Wonderful lunch dinners. . . Darlen piano in the afternoon Don West at the piano. Both great pianist Your friendly hosts, H and Joe Roberts.
