Major Building Program Urged For SAC by Campus President
Financing of a massive building program to double present facilities at Santa Ana College has been asked by Dr. John E. Johnson, college president.
Seven building projects were listed as having high priority in the major building program:
1. Expansion of physical science laboratories, particularly chemistry and physics.
2. More paved parking space.
3. Widening of the west campus road, by the gym, should be pondered as a safety measure.
4. Additional campus lightin is necessitated by the increasing use of the campus during the evening hours.
5. Preliminary planning of the expansion of the cafeteria serving and eating area should be undertaken.
6. With campus in operation a full 12 months consideration should be given to some method of cooling the working area.
7. Additional classroom furniture should be acquired.
SAC currently has an enrollment of around 2,700—up some 460 over last year.

Be Sure to Read Fire Insurance Policy Carefully
Fire insurance repays you for loss of property from fire up to the amount stated in the policy.
You may get protection also from such things as lightning, flood or storms. Some policies do not pay off for loss by earthquakes and other natural disturbances.
Read your policy. Most policies call on the insured to use "all reasonable means to save his property"; say for a business to keep a night watchman or keep enough water on hand to put out fires. Does it cover what you want it to? One policy insured a machine against fire "while in operation." It burned while workers were taking it down for repairs. No coverage.
Some policies do not cover fires in a building vacant for 30 to 60 days. Temporary absence is not such a vacancy.

Adverse Weather Precaution Cited By CHP Official
The arrival of November triggered a special plea from California Highway Patrol Commissioner Bradford M. Crittenden for that "added bit of caution so necessary during the months when weather conditions conspire to complicate the driver's task."
November is a month of extreme danger, he pointed out. "Last year, November proved to be the worst month for traffic fatalities during 1959. A total of 376 were killed.
"December was a little better. In the last month of 1959, 343 persons were killed."
The pedestrian total hit its 1959 high point in November, when 88 were killed. The December figure was nearly as high, with 80 pedestrians meeting their death.
"During the last two months of 1959, a total of 719 were killed, far more than the 598 who died in an average two-month period last year.
"Adverse weather and fewer daylight hours obviously put the driver at a disadvantage. Slippery streets and inadequate visual conditions call for alert, caution vehicle operation," he said.
