YOUR LEGISLATOR AT WORK
SEN. JOHN A. MURDY, JR.
State Senator
Now that Hurricane "Election" has whirled off into history, leaving bruised candidates and scattered propositions strewn over the beach, it is time to redirect our energies to legislative matters. Time is very short between now and our 1961 session, and most of our interim groups still have much to occupy their attention.
Four Senators who will not be with us again held chairmanships of important committees. Their successors will be selected by the Senate Rules Committee. The four groups are Fish and Game, Institutions, Labor, and Revenue and Taxation. As their titles indicate, these committees are responsible for passing on legislation in several significant fields. Consequently, their presiding officers have considerable prestige and authority.
Even greater shifts will take place in Assembly committees. Seven appointments to as many chairmanships will be up to the Assembly Speaker. Such powerful groups as the committees on Agriculture, Education, Judiciary-Civil, Military and Veterinary Enter Design Exhibit
