20 Percent Student Increase Anticipated at Fullerton JC Another sizeable spurt of growth has been predicted for Fullerton Junior College for the coming year by Dr. H. Lynn Sheller, president of the college. Dr. Sheller, in making his first tentative projection of enrollment, announced this week that the college will prepare for a gross enrollment of 4,888 day students for 1961-62, a 20 per cent increase over this year's peak figure of 4,054. Last year's day enrollment was 3,284. Already the largest junior college among the eight of the Eastern Conference and ninth largest among the more than 60 public junior colleges of the state, Fullerton JC will have approximately quadrupled in size in the last 11 years. The totals do not include students attending FJC for college credit during evening hours as a part of the college Extended Day Division. Last year, 1,940 of these evening students were carried on college rolls and this year there are 2,250. FIRST LOS AL "INHERIT THE WIND" Anaheimer Gets Lead Drama Role In Current College Production "Inherit the Wind," a dramatic production dealing with the famous Scopes trial, will be presented by Fullerton Junior College at 8 pm. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17, 18 and 19, in the district auditorium. The play closely parallels the historic John Scopes trial in Dayton, Tennessee, in 1925, when lawyer Clarence Darrow and orator William Jennings Bryan verbally fought out a high school teacher's right to teach Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Leading roles are played by Charles Fisher of Anaheim, who takes the part of the Bryan-like attorney who fought for the fundamentalist view; Richard Bell, the Darrow-like attorney who defends the evolutionary views; Gene Lein of Fullerton, who plays the accused teacher, Scopes; and Nancy Warren of Fullerton, the girl torn between her love of the teacher and respect for the literal Biblical teachings of her evangelistic father, played by Harvey Gomberg of Buena Park. "Inherit the Wind," written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, is currently to be seen as a widely publicized motion picture starring Fredrick March and Spencer Tracy. The Automobile Club of Southern California points out that directional signals are great aids in informing other drivers of your intention to turn. But if the turn is gradual, be sure your flashing lights are off after the turn. Never have your directional signals flashing after you have completed your turning maneuver. The latest trailer figures indicate one out of every four boats ride around on land as well as water. As a result, the country is a network of waterways, connected by convenient roads. Trailer boating is a year around affair. Any warm weekend is suitable to tow the family boat to nearby waters. Now is an appropriate time to check the boat trailer, after a summer season of use, and get it ready for fall outings. If the trailer has been submerged during launching or hauling out, particularly in salt water, it needs attention. Here are hints for trailer maintenance. Examine the trailer hitch coupling, safety chain and winch and line for signs of wear. Is the hitch well anchored to the car's frame as well as bumper? Trailer tires should be in good condition, properly inflated and a spare wheel and tire available. Straps and tie-down lines need replacement. If they are getting worn. Check to see that they are not marring the boat. Anaheim Actors Stage Top Play The Fairmont Players in Anaheim staged the play "Dial M for Murder" in the Studio Loft at 1138 Mable St., Anaheim. The play attracted a packed house and was the season's opener for the amateur group. Director Jon Craig announced open readings for two comedies coming up on the Fairmont schedule. They are "Hay Fever" and "Tender Trap." "Sin Overcome" Is Church Theme "All flesh shall see the salvation of God" (Luke 3:6). These words of John the Baptist are the keynote of a recent Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all Christian Science churches. The question "Are Sin, Disease and Death Real?" is the subject. Teachings of Christ Jesus are featured in Bible selections which include these verses from Matthew's Gospel: "Every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them" (7:17, 19, 20). "Jesus strips all disguise from error, when his teachings are fully understood," affirms Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She continues, "By parables and argument he explains the importance of faith." "Jesus strips all disguise from error, when his teachings are fully understood," affirms Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She continues, "By parables and argument he explains the impossibility of good producing evil; and he also scientifically demonstrates this great fact, proving what are wrongly called miracles, that sin, sickness, and death are beliefs—elusive errors—which he would and did destroy" (p. 343).
