$5 Million Hotel To Open in Anaheim Friday
One of the world's great hotel chains announced its penetration of the Southern California market today when plans for a star-studded opening of the new Charterhouse Hotel in Anaheim was made public.
The Hotel Corporation of America, operators of luxury hotels in America, Europe and the Caribbean area revealed its new 196-room hotel on Harbor Blvd. near the Santa Ana Freeway across from Disneyland, would open today (Thursday) with civic dignitaries, industrial leaders, motion picture and television stars in attendance.
Hotel Corporation area manager R. Joseph Fitzgerald made known the new unit, the first of several to be built on the present site, has an estimated value of $5,000,000. Additions will double this value, according to Fitzgerald.
The 20-acre location of the hotel formerly was a portion of the Hagar Orange Ranch and many of the orange trees have been integrated with the new landscaping. In addition to sleeping accommodations, the hotel offers public rooms for conventions, meetings and social occasions, an Olympic-size swimming pool, coffee shop, cocktail lounges and, typical of the corporation's other locations, two specialty restaurants, the Rib Room and Polynesian Village.
LDS Girls to Receive Awards
One hundred girls of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Orange County Stake, will receive their individual awards for outstanding personal and spiritual achievement Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at the Fullerton Chapel, 801 N. Raymond, Fullerton.
These girls are from Anaheim, Buena Park, Fullerton and La Habra wards. The special speaker will be Fred C. Goldthorpe, medical and sales training manager for Riker Laboratories, Inc., and an outstanding Seminary Institute teacher at San Fernando Valley. "Sweethearts of the M.I.A." is the theme for the formal dance following the presentation of awards. The music will be furnished by the "Teen Beats," television and recording artists.
have been integrated with the new landscaping.
Fitzgerald said the Charterhouse Hotel is the first of several hotel activities in which HCA will ultimately be engaged in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. He pointed out the chain now is active in Chicago, Maine, Winnipeg, San Juan, Puerto Rico, London and New York, with headquarters in Boston.
Victor Gruen Associates had architectural responsibility for the Charterhouse with Wagner Construction the general contractor. Financing was handled by the Union Bank who recently broke ground for the building of a $6 million Construction Center in the city of Orange.
