'DOLLARS FOR DEMOCRATS' Orange County Democratic Fund Drive Will Get Underway Today Orange County's "Dollars for Democrats" drive is scheduled this weekend with more than 1,500 volunteer precinct workers ringing doorbells to gain financial support for the party. Art Egbert will head the drive in the Anaheim area, according to Lester Van Tatenhove, chairman of the Orange County Democratic Central Committee. Mrs. Dorothy Harvey of Santa Ana and David Cadwell of Anaheim are co-chairmen of the county drive. Van Tatenhove said the drive gives every Democrat a chance to participate in the campaign. "We know there are many who cannot take an active part in the campaign, but would like to help out. This is their chance," he said. The Orange County drive will be launched today when Sen. Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota arrives by plane at 5 p.m. at Orange County Airport. Those attending will learn the real facts on water from a recognized authority in Ralph Brody, who has had long experience in water problems and is the governor's advisor and counsel on water matters." Forum Chairman Bert Stolpe, past president of the National Newspaper Promotion Association, stated the purpose of the World Newspaper Forum is: To provide an annual sounding board for opinions, observations, ideas of basic importance to the peoples of the world during National Newspaper Week; To point up actions to watch for in the year ahead and the immediate future; To provide information for deliberation and thought that will be of help to the general citizenry; To provide a common platform of expression for men of good yill throughout the world; To demonstrate to the world that free expression ond a free press are synonymous. OC People Hurt in Freeway Auto Crash Three Orange County residents were injured in a three-car accident on the Santa Ana Freeway. Among the victims were James R. Jackson of Garden Grove and Myrtle Bowers, 59, of 501 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Anaheim. The third victim was Worth Bernard, 56, of Santa Ana, publisher of the Orange County Industrial News, who suffered five broken ribs and head injuries after he was thrown from his car. $30,000 Air Space Master Plan Ready for Unveiling Next Monday Supervisor William Phillips has announced that the $30,000 Airport master plan for Orange County will be unveiled in a formal presentation at Santa Ana College's Phillips Hall, next Monday at 7:30 p.m. in a final report. The project has been under study by a joint venture team of analysts from Lockheed Air Terrain, Quentin Engineers and William Perreira. Invitations to the event have been mailed to city officials and civic leaders. Supervisor Phillips, major sponsor of the airport study, announced that the college hall was being used due to the heavy interest in the report. Pioneer Residents Passes Away at Katherine Sarah Parker neer resident of Orange County passed away at her home S. Mansfield Ave. in Los Angeles following a lengthy illness. Cries For Help Save Boy's Life The body of a ten-year-old boy submerged in three feet of water was sighted Saturday, Sept. 3, from a Newport Beach pier by James J. Reagan, 1511 E. Birch St., Anaheim. Screaming frantically for help, Reagan finally caught the attention of bathers and lifeguards who came to the aid of young Wayne Donald Rorick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rorick, 714 S. Rest St., Anaheim. Lifeguard Bob Cravage pulled Wayne out of the water and, with the help of four more lifeguards and a resuscitator unit, restored Wayne to breathing. He was removed to Hoag Memorial Hospital and returned to his home on Tuesday of last week. Neither Reagan nor the Roricks knew each other' names, or that they both lived in Anaheim. Reagan traced the boy through the lifeguard at the beacon and was able to learn of the boy's recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Rorick subsequently learned the name of the man whose cries for help saved their boy's life. Orange County Welfare clips predict that the old apical care bill just passed but gress will have far-reaching effects on Orange County borough. County Welfare Director Douglas foresees the progress of a doubled case load on aid in the county under the local aid to aged law, and costs in administration, which will result in increased taxes in Orange County. Witnessing the tragic crash was the pilot's wife who was watching from the nearby airport. Ross, of 8961 Syracuse Ave., Anaheim, and his two passengers, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ray Ebersole of Westminster, were pronounced dead on arrival at Fullerton Community Hospital. Ross was a flight engineer for United Airlines. Fioneer Resident Passes Away at 87 Katherine Sarah Parker, planner resident of Orange County, passed away at her home at 302 Mansfield Ave. in Los Angeles, allowing a lengthy illness. She was 87 at the time of her death, having been born in Anaheim on March 1, 1873. The Parker family, which had come to Anaheim in 1870 from Missouri, owned the Modjeska ranch where Ladame Modjeska had founded her ill-fated Polish Colony. They lived there until 1875, when they moved to Orange, and then to Los Angeles in 1894. The Parker home in Orange was the famous octagon-shaped house northeast of Orange. OC Dedicates Week To Hospital Drive Stressing the importance of having a children's hospital, the board of supervisors issued a proclamation, declaring Sept. 18 to Children's Hospital of Orange County Week throughout Orange County. Proclamation by the supervisors kicked-off a week of united effort on the part of volunteer workers throughout the county to move closer to the $800,000 goal for the $2 million hospital. Campaign chairman Richard W. Taylor said that the hospital would be specialised for taking care of the county's children from birth to 16. "Children's Hospital," he said, "will complement and not compete with other hospitals in this area. All patients will receive the best of care with no racial, religious or economic barriers." Police said the plane came in too low for a landing and hit high tension lines at N. Gilbert Ave, near Artesia Ave. The plane apparently did not experience engine trouble prior to the crash. Reports indicated that Ross was giving a demonstration ride to the couple who were believed to be purchasing the Piper Tri-Pacer from Ross. Ross leaves his widow and two children, age 2 and 6. Ebersole was an independent garage owner. He and his wife had no children. Armchair Journey To South America A travelog by John and Jean Ebersole entitled "Seething South America" will open the eighth continuous season of the Orange County Travel Forum at the Santa Ana Public Library in Friday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The armchair journey will visit Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Trinidad, Brazil, Argentina and Guatemala. Influenza Shots Set For Centralia Staff First influenza immunizations for teachers and classified personnel in Centralia School district are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 20, at Walter Knott School. Board members have authorized the flu shots be given gratis, hoping to stem the illnesses which disrupted the educational program of the district last year when a wave of influenza swept through the school system. Old Age Medical Care Bill Will Be Added Cost to OC Taxpayers Orange County Welfare officials predict that the old age medical care bill just passed by Congress will have far-reaching effects on Orange County budgets. County Welfare Director Tom Douglas foreseees the probability of a doubled case load of aged old in the county under the medical aid to aged law, and added costs in administration, all of which will result in increased taxes in Orange County for relief or assistance. Douglas firmly believes that the county welfare department will eventually stand the burden of administering the bill. He estimated that the current list of those eligible for medical care, now numbering 6300, will double by reaching many persons who are not now eligible for old age security, but will qualify under the medical care bill. Paul Gregory will present Miss Agnes Moorehead in "The Fabulous Redhead" and Christopher Fry's witty comedy, "A Phoenix Too Frequent" in a twin-bill opening of the Santa Ana College Artist and Drama Series on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in Phillips Hall at 8 p.m. The talented star of stage and screen has delighted audiences throughout the country in the Paul Gregory productions, first with "Don Juan in Hell" and now with "That Fabulous Redhead."
