Mr. and Mrs. Jarrett Terrell, 16 Famed Pomona Fair Boasts Top Crops Biggest pumpkins, the tallest corn and choicest crops of field and garden add rural glamour to elaborate county and community feature exhibits at the 1960 Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, Sept. 16 through Oct. 2. In true county fair tradition, here is dramatized the amazing wealth and diversity of California's famed harvests and natural resources in a parade of magnificent displays in the exposition's Palace of Agriculture, biggest building of its kind in the west. Nearly 100 counties, communities and organizators from one end of the state to the other compete for the spotlight and over $55,000 in cash awards. California's famed citrus is displayed with popular murals painted in wrappers of many colors. Here also is shown the state's exotic date industry and hundreds of the choiceest specimens of our varied and abundant agricultural production. The state's multimillion dollar wine industry has a sparkling exhibit. Literally miles of exhibits in 20 major divisions along with a continuous round of brilliant entertainment and festivities are added attractions in this 33rd annual edition of the Los Angeles County Fair, a gigantic $25,000,000 spectacle and the largest and most beautiful county fair in the nation. Drive Now Underway Team captains have been selected and volunteer workers are being chosen with a number still needed from all parts of the county. This is the situation at present of the fund drive group seeking support for the Children's Hospital of Orange County to be built in Orange adjacent to the St. Joseph Hospital. Volunteers determined to make the project a reality recently at the 12-zone meeting. The leaders have agreed, with help, to raise the needed $800,000 of the matching funds for the $2 million hospital to be established in the center of Orange County. "The expensive fees will be saved by hard work and practically every dollar collected will be used to build and equip one of the finest hospitals in the country to serve the seriously ill children of Orange County," Richard W. Taylor, chairman of the campaign, stated. "Although we are doing the work on a volunteer basis, many experts in practically every field are donating time to the planning, management and administering of the monumental task of raising necessary funds," Taylor further stated.
