LONG BEACH (FHTNC) — Richard A. Yohn, fire control technician third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Yohn of 3403-A Olinda Lane, Anaheim, returned July 25 to Long Beach aboard the dock landing ship USS Point Defiance after a six-month tour of duty with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific.
The Point Defiance participated in operation "Blue Star" in March, an amphibious landing exercise on Formosa, as a secondary control vesse. She also participated in operation "Seahawk" at Pohang, Korea, in June, carrying Under Water Demolition Team 12 in advance and reconnaissance operations.
During the cruise visits were made to Taiwan, Okinawa, Japan and Hong Kong.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. (FHTNC)—Midshipman Carl W. Gregory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Gregory of 20226 Santa Ana Canyon Rd., Anaheim, a student at Oregon State College, Corvallis, is one of 1500 NROTC Midshipmen from 52 colleges and universities who completed three weeks of aviation indoctrination July 26 at the Naval Air Advanced Training Station, Corpus Christi.
