We reject it, too." "The right to vote is the first principle of self-government. The Constitution also guarantees to all Americans the equal protections these constitutional rights. The Supreme Court has the power to interpret these rights and the laws thus enacted. WHAT'S DOING Harvey Hendrickson, your Telephone Manager in Anaheim One of Disneyland's most spectacular attractions is the Circarama tour of "America the Beautiful." For you're encircled by 11 screens as this unique movie takes you to Times Square at night, a New England village, the Grand Canyon and many other parts of our land. The effect is breathtaking . . . just like being in these places yourself. And it's free, too—part of an exhibit sponsored by Pacific Telephone and the Bell Telephone System. If you visit Disneyland this summer, be sure you see Circarama, I know you'll enjoy it. Most folks think that television is a recent invention. But this picture proves differently. That's the back of the television set that picked up the Most folks think that television is a recent invention. But this picture proves differently. That's the back of the television set that picked up the first city-to-city telecast. The year was 1927, and the program featured Herbert Hoover! Research by Bell Telephone Laboratories helped make possible that first telecast, and it was carried over a long distance telephone line. Today, telephone equipment still has a lot to do with bringing you television. Pictures from the entertainment centers of the nation travel to your local stations over our equipment—coaxial cables and microwave radio relay—before they're beamed to your home. While telephone research is always focused on bringing you better phone service, it is interesting how often its discoveries pay off for you in other ways, too. Summertime. That's the time folks spend plenty of hours outdoors. And here's an idea we've come up with that can add a lot to your outdoor living. It's a portable phone that can move outdoors with you. We put in jacks for it near your garden, patio or pool so you can plug it in wherever you go. Think of the steps it can save! If you'd like more information about this handy portable phone, just give us a call. California Highway Patrol Announces Examinations for State Officers The California Highway Patrol announced recently that a civil service examination for state traffic officers will be held throughout California on September 24. The examination will be open to men between the ages of 21 and 32 who meet the requirements in regard to education, citizenship and residence, physical condition, and character. This is the first examination for state traffic officer to be given since the legislature enacted the Fair Employment Practices Act last year. "A law enforcement patrol can only command the fullest confidence of the citizens it serves when no group among them has legitimate cause to feel that the force is unrepresentative or antagonistic to the members of that group. The Patrol wants the best men available and will not in any way discriminate against qualified men." Full information and application forms may be obtained from any CHP office or by writing to the Patrol at P.O. Box 898, Sacramento 4. Final date for filing applications for the examination is Aug. 26. AUTO REGISTRATIONS There were 71,502,394 motor vehicles registered in the United States during 1959, reports the National Automobile Club. A. Choice Aged Beef is Sold at Safeway...
