Confirms Beckham's Post As Fair Director; 2 Others Named Official notification of new appointments to the board of directors of the Orange County Fair have been received at the fairgrounds, it was announced today by Stewart W. Yost, manager of the fair. Ralph P. Maskey of 3714 Channel Place, Newport Beach, long-time member of the board, has been reappointed by Gov. Edmund G. Brown to a term which will end Jan. 15, 1964. The governor also announced appointment of two new members: Frederick R. Beckham of 811 Valencia Mesa Drive, Fullerton, to fill a newly created position as the state-operated Orange County Fair) in a memo from the office of A. E. Snider, chief of the Fairs and Expositions Division of the State Department of Finance. The appointments will go into effect immediately, said Yost. The new board members will be seated at the next regular meeting of the board on Wednesday, June 15, he said. $25 Million "Proposed For" The shopping center of the future may be built right here in Anaheim. In this center, the shopper would park his car, mount a circular and moving bench and—like the proverbial roulette wheel—the proverbial roulette wheel—spin to his or her objective. The $25 million dollar shopping center was described last week to Anaheim city officials by Claude Pomeroy of Mesa, Ariz., president of Circle Centers, Inc. Builder of the project, should it become reality, would be the Triton Ralph P. Maskey of 3714 Channel Place, Newport Beach, long-time member of the board, has been reappointed by Gov. Edmund G. Mitchell of Tustin. Dreizen's term will expire Jan. 15, 1964. News of the appointments was directed to the 32nd District Agricultural Assn. (official name of the state-operated Orange County Fair) in a memo from the office of A. E. Snider, chief of the Fairs and Expositions Division of the State Department of Finance. The appointments will go into effect immediately, said Yost. The new board members will be seated at the next regular meeting of the board on Wednesday, June 15, he said. The seat vacated on the fair board by William S. Lee, Costa Mesa attorney who was appointed to a judgeship by Gov. Brown, still remains to be filled by appointment by the governor. Another vacancy must be filled by governor's appointment to fill the unexpired term of A. J. Schutte, who resigned earlier this year. The term runs through Jan. 15, 1961. Manufacturing Leads the Field As Orange County’s Top Employer A progress report issued by the county stated that the majority of workers employed in Orange County are in the manufacturing field. Statistics showed that manufacturing has replaced the trade, wholesale and retail field as the county's No. 1 employer. Total employment in the county was set at 176,200 as of July 1959 with manufacturing having a total of 42,000. The commercial field was a close second with service industries taking third place. Agriculture remained in the same status while mineral extraction dropped down a hundred last year. Government, city and county soared from 4730 in 1950 to 21,200 in 1959. Contract construction also showed a sharp incline as did the business world of finance, insurance, and real estate. Big BP Swim Park Will Open In July The 900-person capacity Municipal Swim Stadium in nearby Buena Park will be completed in mid-July. The stadium will be located in Peak Park at El Dorado and El Coco Aves. The pool will be 165 ft. long and 65 ft. wide with depths ranging from 12 feet to 2 ft., 9 in. Boom Forecast A new county progress report revealed that an anticipated home building boom in the county will center in the Buena Park Stanton and Los Alamitos area. The report quoted a Federal Housing Administration announcement which revealed that from all indications the county could be ready for another building boom. The FHA report stated that the total unsold inventory reached a high of 7,000 units during the overbuilt period of 1956 is now at its lowest point since 1953, with only 2,870 houses on the market, despite a high level of new construction. Contracts Awarded DAYTON AIR FORCE DEPOT Dayton, Ohio.-The Air Force has awarded a $101,750 contract to Nortronics, a division of Northrop Corp., 500 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Ahaheim, Calif., officials of the Dayton Air Force Depot and Verifier Punch. Gardener's Check List By the California Association of Nurserymen 1.
