This was the report given to nearly 3,000 delegates from all states and territories in the Union the convention Friday evening, May 6.
Scores of Flag Officers of the Navy and Generals of the Marine Corps in colorful attire were guests of honor. Knott stated, "Jim Whetmore is an outstanding candidate for this important office and I am confident he will be overwhelmingly elected next November. He has outlined a hard-hitting vigorous campaign based upon the important issues which affect all of us in the 75th District.
"We have all been shocked at the failure of the Brown administration in Sacramento. Our state income tax was increased by 100 per cent during the first year the Governor was in office. Over 30 new bureaus, agencies and commissions have been added to the state government in Sacramento. At least 40 per cent of the income of the average family today goes to pay the cost of government at either the local, state or federal level.
"Those of us working for Jim Whetmore believe it is time for a change and time to elect, as our representative in Sacramento, a man who is pledged to economy in government and who will preserve our free enterprise system," Mr. Knott declared.
The rabbit may have become a symbol of Easter because of the moon. Some ancient peoples considered the rabbit a symbol of the moon . . . and the moon determines the date of Easter."
Brown Picks Santa Anan To Head 'Favorite Son' Drive
Governor Edmund G. Brown this week launched the campaign to send his "favorite son" presidential delegation to the Democratic National Convention with an attack on the Eisenhower Administration and the appointment of William Thomson of Santa Ana to head the campaign in Orange County.
Thomson, of 315 W. 10th St., Santa Ana, has long been active in community and Democratic Party affairs.
He is a member of the Democratic State Central Committee, was a director of the California Democratic Council from 1956 to 1959 and was Orange County chairman of the Brown for Governor Committee in 1958.
Thomson is an inheritance tax appraiser and a lawyer. He is a law graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, a member of PhiGamma Delta fraternity and of Delta Phi law fraternity.
"Thomson has been an outstanding leader of the Democratic Party in Orange County." Governor Brown said in announcing his appointment as district chairman of the Democratic Committee for the Brown Favorite Son Delegation.
"I am gratified that he has accepted this important post," he added. "I know he will be of immeasurable help in getting out a vote at the June 7 primary which will start the Democratic Party on the road to victory in the presidential race in November."

A TOUCH OF HUMOR was interjected with the revelation that Secretary of the Navy William Franke took time out Friday to invite Mrs. Joanne Ray of Santa Ana to his suite to discuss the art of darning socks.
Mrs. Ray had previously written a letter recommending that the Navy be supplied with better shoes after noting that he husband's navy boots had worn holes in 25 pairs of socks.
Franke commented: "If the Secretary of the Navy can darn socks, then so can Joanne Ray. The solution of the problem is difficult. Improving Navy shoes at this date won't help you.
"But perhaps the package I am sending may, with a little perseverance on your part, be helpful. I do advise strongly against throwing away your husband's socks. He might not like it."
Two days after receiving the letter Mrs. Ray got a package from the Navy secretary.
"I contained a darning set, with an egg, yarn and needle," she said.

Anaheim City Council Tuesday took under study a new proposal to annex 336 acres of inhabited and uninhabited land in the western section of the community.
Councilmen took under advisement the so-called Broadway-La Palma Annexation.
A similar, but somewhat larger annexation in the same area and known as the Western Anaheim Annexation was defeated in November, 1956.
THE FAILURE of the annex created a controversial north-south corridor of county territory along Brookhurst Ave. that nearly split the city into two zones. Since
