B4-Anaheim Gazette (Anaheim, Thursday, April 21, 1960) Sportfishing by Capt. Ray Thorpe Outstanding and, in my opinion, the best known landing operator in Southern California is Dave Fink of Davey's Locker Nos. 1 and 2 in Newport Harbor. From the legislative halls in Sacramento to La Paz, Mexico, every sportfisherman, landing owner and newspaperman appreciate Dave Fink's untiring efforts in making sportfishing one of California's leading attractions. Ten years ago Dave brought his first sportfishing boat into Newport Harbor and began taking out charter parties. Year after year he added more boats to his operation until now he is operating the largest fleet of new, modern boats in Newport Harbor. This year he opened Landing No. 2 at 201 Coast Highway, Newport Beach, to take care of the increasing business and began running the popular "Westerner" on a half-day schedule. This is the first half-day boat ever to operate out of Newport Harbor. At the home landing, 632 31st Street, the all-day boats and charter boats leave the dock every hour from 1:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. This fleet of deluxe sportfishing boats is equipped with everything to make the anglers happy and contented: excellent galleys, EVERY DAY WE'RE PROUD OF THESE Thrift "Fresher By Far" Produce ALL GREEN, LARGE STALK UTAH TYPE, CRISP CELERY is the first half-day boat ever to operate out of Newport Harbor. Among these are the "Fury", "Sea Horse", "Thunderbird" and "Del Mar". Active in civic affairs, sportsmen's clubs and chambers of commerce, Dave Fink devotes much time to working with Senator John A. Murdy in assisting in getting legislative measures passed for the conservation of our ocean fish and laws that are fair to all who enjoy California's wonderful ocean fishing. Not to be overlooked is the big powerful charter boat 'Web Foot' which has made charter runs several hundred miles down into Mexican waters and other charter boats carrying from 6 to 35 passengers operating all over our coastal fishing grounds. Fullerton Hi-Lites by Bill Olson Fullerton HEA will hold their first of the season Cocktail Dance at the Anaheim Bowl on May 22. Now that the Dodgers are back home and the season has started, your Union sports editor Dave Kotch will have some more interesting data for you. His column is most informative. FHEA has five trips planned to the Los Angeles Coliseum, first one around April 30th. Now, more than ever, is the time to talk Union to your fellow worker. Has he been asked to join the Union? Maybe no one has ever asked him to join. He might just be waiting for someone to ask him about signing up. Why not ask him... Now, more than ever, is the time to talk Union to your fellow worker. WASHINGTON (PAI) — While so much heat is being raised about conflict of interests no one should overlook the recent hearings into the proposal of Sen. Paul Douglas (D., Ill.) which would expose interest gouging on time payments. Among the worst offenders are auto dealers. Outspoken opponent of the proposal in the Senate Banking Subcommittee hearing was Sen. Wallace F. Bennett (R., Utah). It just so happens that Bennett, a former president of the National Association of Manufacturers, is part-owner of a Ford agency in Utah. The United States Coast Guard in peacetime is, in large measure "law and order" in Alaska. Its duties include transportation of floating courts, dispensation of justice in minor cases, apprehension of criminals, rendering aid and general welfare, enforcement of game and fish laws, maintenance of aids to navigation, life-saving and patrol services.
