You Can Have a
GI Loan Deadline For
WW II Veterans Is July 25
About five months remain in which World War II veterans may apply for GI home, farm or business loans, Mort Webster, manager of VA's Southern California Regional office, reminded veterans today.
Under present law, July 25, 1960, is the cut-off date set for World War II veteran participation in the post-war program that has seen more than 5 million World War II veterans take advantage of the GI Bill loan provisions since June 22, 1944.
VETERANS WHO SUBMIT their applications on or before the period are considered Korean-conflict veterans for the purpose of GI loans.
Under the GI loan program, qualified veterans are offered the opportunity to obtain VA guaranteed or insured loans to (a) purchase, build or improve a home; (b) buy a farm or farm supplies; and (c) buy or expand a business venture.
MTA Proposal
For Rapid Transit
Here Under Study
A Metropolitan Transit Authority proposal to extend a rapid transit line into Orange County with a terminus in the Bue Park-Anaheim area is being scrutinized by County officials.
Orange County is not a member of MTA.
The proposed Orange County route, one of eight proposed in 20-year expansion program MTA, would have a decided impact on the county, most expected.

VETERANS WHO SUBMIT their applications on or before the deadline of July 25, 1960, will be allowed an additional year, or until July 25, 1961, in which to have the loan processed and actually closed.
Webster pointed out that these dates do not apply to Korean-conflict veterans who have until January 31, 1965, to make GI loan applications.
World War II veterans who also served during the Korean-conflict period are considered Korean-conflict veterans for the purpose of GI loans.

Edison Co. Pays $1.5 Million Taxes
A check in the amount of $1,592,406.66 was presented to Orange County Monday (April 11) as the final installment of Southern California Edison Company's local property taxes for 1959-60.
This check, together with the first installment which was paid last December 10, brings the total property taxes paid by Edison in this county for the year to $3,184,808.66, according to J. A. Long, district manager for the electric utility. Edison is the largest utility taxpayer in this county, Long noted, and more than half of its twice-a-year payments goes directly toward the support of public schools.
The tung tree which produces oil for paints, the castor bean and the beautiful poinsettia all belong to the same botanical family.

Beckman Delivers Jet Test Cells
To Japanese, Swiss Airline Co.s
The International Division of Beckman Instruments, Inc., will deliver two electronic complexes for the pre-flight testing of commercial aircraft jet engines to opposite sides of the world during April.
Edward H. Cherniss, director of foreign operations for the Fullerton firm said the jet engine test cell systems will be delivered to Japan Air Lines in Tokyo and Swissair in Zurich.
CHERNISS SAID the systems,
each costing about $10,000, test the engines electronically after they have been removed from the aircraft.
A thorough ground testing by the electronic systems, each of which is custom designed, takes about eight hours, reducing greatly the engine layoff time of former methods, he said.

Anaheim High Summer School Questionnaires Put In Mail
Summer school questionnaires are being mailed home with report cards this week by the Anaheim Union High School District. This survey will determine which courses will be offered in the summer session, June 20 to August 5. Senior High classes will be offered at Western High School and Junior High classes will be offered at Fremont Junior High School.
IT WILL BE POSSIBLE for students to take ten units of work in the 8:00-12:10 period daily.
Class in Math and Science to be given in both the Junior and Senior High summer program. Top students will receive advanced work in these fields.
The summer school program also answers in part the desire for year-round utilization of school structures. The faculties will be selected from all the district schools.
Last summer some 171,366 students took part in high school work in California. The majority

Gardener's Check List
By the California Association of Nurserymen
Start after bloom camellia care soon as possible. Feed with an acid-type fertilizer and mulch around plants with a layer of peat moss.
Pot up or transplant begonia tubers that have two or three inches of top growth. Wait a week or two to feed them.
Start hanging baskets of fuchsias for summer color. Use two or three small plants to a container.
A sharp mower is the best insurance against ragged lawns. Once a year is not too often to have mowers sharpened.
Rooted cuttings of chrysanthemums should be set out now and started on their way to the big show in late summer and fall.
IT WILL BE POSSIBLE for students to take ten units of work in the 8:00-12:10 period daily. This is equivalent of one two semester course. Many one semester courses will also be offered.
Last year almost 25% of California's high school students attended summer session. The majority of these were good students doing extra work rather than a strictly remedial effort. 1959 was the first year a summer program was offered in the Anaheim Union High School District. Well over a thousand youngsters participated in the initial program. It is anticipated that a great increase in the enrollment will take place this year.
A FEATURE of the academic program is the special research work in these fields.
The summer school program also answers in part the desire for year-round utilization of school structures. The faculties will be selected from all the district schools.
Last summer some 171,366 students took part in high school work in California. The majority of the enrolments were in Mathematics; the Business, English, and Social Studies areas followed closely. The Anaheim District program will include these areas plus Science and Foreign Languages. No Driver Training will be offered this coming summer.
Pre-registration will commence after May 1, with final registration slated the first day of Summer School, June 20, at the school sites. No transportation will be provided. Summer school principals are Mr. Lloyd Seeman at Fremont and Mr. John F. McGrew at Western. Only students residing in the Anaheim Union High School District are eligible for Summer School work.
