Narcotics Poor Issue
For Partisan Politics
In today's issue of the Gazette (on Page A-2) C. Lard Key, County Republican Chairman, castigated Governor Edmund G. Brown because he felt that the Gov't was "passing the buck" in the State's dope problem.
It is very easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize Governor for his decisions. It is especially easy to do when one is in the opposition party.
We are of the firm opinion that our Governor conscientious Chief Executive and certainly as great concerned over this vital question as Mr. Key.
The Governor most certainly had a very good reefer for not calling a special session on this matter at this or he would have chosen to do so. He has expressed a positive constructive measures for remedying the narcotic traffic problem by eliminating the profit.
The Republican party should not use the narcotic problem as a political football. Everyone except the peddlers are interested in controlling this vicious disease but barbs by the opposition party will not aid the pro-nor correct it.
This is everybody's problem and both major parties and the leaders must work together for a solution.
Former Governor Goodwin Knight recently said "we will have to stop the importation of narcotics at source, via Mexico and China." Until such time as Federal Government can stop the smuggling of narcotics on our borders, we are convinced that State legislation legislative special sessions will prove of no avail.
Let's be fair with Governor Brown. To date he made an excellent record in Sacramento and deserves support of all good Californians.

Poor Issue
Mrs. Reed was named by a board of judges meeting here to review candidates from 3,000 super markets in the United States and Canada for the Checker of the Year Awards sponsored annually by Super Market Institute and The National Cash Register Company. Competition is based on customer courtesy, a cooperative attitude toward fellow workers, and cash register accuracy.
Mother of two children, Mrs. Reed is employed by the Alpha Beta Food Markets, Inc., whose headquarters are at 1111 S. Fullerton Rd., La Habra. Her checkstand is in the store at 1250 E. Chapman, Fullerton.
ENJOYING THE CHALLENGE
of "making each customer feel that our store is her store, too," Mrs. Reed has worked for Alpha Beta for four years. Customer voting played a large part in helping select her to represent the 52 stores in the chain.
As a state queen, Mrs. Reed now becomes eligible for selection as one of the ten regional winners who will be flown to New York City via United Air Lines on April 26 for a whirlwind tour. Following their two-day stay at Manhattan's Hotel Roosevelt, the candidates for the title of International Checker of the Year will go to Atlantic City for their final performance tests at the 23rd Annual Convention of Super Market Institute.
THE WINNER, who will be crowned in ceremonies in the Warren Theatre on May 2, will receive tickets for two for a two-week tour of Hawaii as a guest of the Dole-Hawaiian Pineapple Company, a mink stole, and numerous other prizes. Two maids of honor will win ten-day vacations in the Hollywood Beach Hotel, Hollywood, Florida.

The six-foot, eight-inch Vlahovich is charged with perjury and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
Simpson was felled with five shotgun blasts as he returned to his home the night of Feb. 7, 1959. His wife, Juanita, Simpson's companion at the time, was wounded and had both hands amputated in surgery as a result.
Rosoto had pleaded not guilty to all charges. He alleges the charges place him in double jeopardy as a result of his earlier acquittal.
Rosoto is being held without bail. Vlahovich is being held for $20,000 ball and Larson and Saboter in lieu of $10,000 ball each.
Three other men, alleged accomplices of the Rosoto gang, were arrested earlier in connection with the case, but released.
Jenkyn, who is currently serving a prison sentence, was ordered returned to Chino until his trial May 2.
