Realignment of County Supervisor Areas S
Sweeping realignment of Orange County's five supervisorial districts is being considCounty Supervisors have revealed a study is afoot to realign boundaries of the five
evenly representative of the County population.
At present the "out of line" population - supervisorial district shapes up like this:
District 1 (Featherly), 90,000;
District 2 (Warner), 160,000;
District 3 (Phillips), 300,000;
District 4 (Hirstein), 80,000, and District 5 (Nelson), 105,000.
The widest disparagency is be-
tween District 3 (including Anaheim and Fullerton) and District
4 (sparsely populated east Orange
County).
One crimp is put into the proposal to realign by a state law that prohibits supervisorial distritions from crossing state assembly district borders.

Imperial Insurance Gives Dividends
SAN GABRIEL, Calif.—Imperial Insurance Exchange has issued their first policy holders' dividend based on the 1958 policy year after but two years in operation specializing in workman's compensation insurance, according to Executive Vice President, John W. Davis.
In making the announcement, Davis stated, "Since the inception of the Imperial Insurance Exchange, our primary objective has been to achieve the lowest possible net cost for our policy holders. This announcement of our first dividend is a significant indication that our ultimate goals are well within reason."
Local School Youngsters Health Guarded By Well-Chosen Meals
Mom got the lowdown from Centralia School District for experts on how to fill junior's stomach.
Mrs. Marian Garrett, head of food services, outlined requirements the district must meet to serve "Type A" meals. These menus provide from one-third to one-half the daily nutritional needs of the elementary school age child.
Certain fundamental requisites must be met, Mrs. Garrett explained. A menu must provide two sources of protein each day and three sources of fruit or vegetables. Vitamin A is required once a week while vitamin C is an every day "must." The latter is most difficult to obtain on a low budget of 30c per meal, Mrs. Garrett told the mothers, cause children do not particularly care for parsley, spinach broccoli. This leaves a choice of sources such as citrus fruit tomatoes. The latter community is costly during most of the school year, she pointed out.
BREAD AND BUTTER at least one-half pint of milk are included in each month Surplus commodities are furnished schools under the state and national plan. Mrs. Garrett cited butter as an example. State furnishes one pound every 50 children. A state auction once or twice a year determines the amount of butter bought and the amount furnished by the government. Centralia district used an average of pounds for the first two weeks last December at one schoo when 3555 meals were served.

This leaves a choice of foods such as citrus fruit or potatoes. The latter commodities costly during most of the school year, she pointed out.
READ AND BUTTER and least one-half pint of whole milk are included in each meal. Holus commodities are furnished schools under the state national plan. Mrs. Garrett did butter as an example. The furnishes one pound for every 50 children. A state audit or twice a year determines the amount of butter bought by the amount furnished by government. Centralia district used an average of 70 pounds for the first two weeks.
December at one school on 3555 meals were served. Main dishes may include meat bowl, beans or cheese, fish or or a combination or variation of those ingredients. Color variety must be considered. Mrs. Garrett explained, so looks appetizing to the faithful consumer.
Although "preference of child" is last on the state's menu
some items have more appeal for the youngsters. Hamburger day, when 80 to 100 more lunches are served in each school, is most popular. Other favorites are pizzaburger, toastie dog and comination meat dishes. Apple crisp and chocolate cake are popular desserts.
VOLUMINOUS DAY BY day and monthly records from each caeteria must be checked, involving not only food commodities but intangible items such as costs and labor, also audited by the state. Dr. S. C. Joyner, special consultant on school administration, commended the district on a recent visit for the few man hours spent in the district's five cafeterias in proportion to the average number of children who participate in the hot lunch program each day. Centralia district is one of the fortunate districts in southern California which has been able to operate on the low cost of 30c per lunch for school children and still stay out of the red, according to Palmer G. Campen, assistant superintendent of business. He gives Mrs. Garrett much of the credit, and told P.T.A. presidents that in addition to the cafeteria staff, much additional labor goes into cafeteria accounting, payroll, delivery, warehousing and keeping personnel records by the business office's staff.
Vet Exemptions Deadline May 2
Veterans must file $1,000 property tax exemptions no later than May 2. County Veterans Service Officer Ben Liebermann has announced.
California grants exemption from taxes, but not special assessments, on $1,000 assessed value to qualified resident veterans of wars or campaigns, including women veterans. Eligibility is limited to veterans who do not own real estate and personal property with an assessed value of $5,000 or more, although under the community property laws he and his wife together may own properly up to an assessed value of $10,000 and still be eligible under certain circumstances.
Veterans are warned that if they intend to file for the exemption on any property they own or are buying, they must have the deed or contract of sale recorded before March 7. A veteran cannot get an exemption on property not assessed to him. It must be owned, claimed, possessed or managed by the veteran at noon on the first Monday in March to have it assessed to him.

By the California Association of Nurserymen
1. Wise rosarians will be out these days watching new growth in the rose garden. Aphids are the main thing to look for. Shoot them down before they get a foothold.
2. Feeding Camellias is a post-bloom item on your gardener's check-list. Liquid Fish and an acid-type commercial fertilizer and iron chaelates are all used.
3. Weed flower beds to conserve moisture and preserve appearance.
4. Feed lawns under trees an extra helping of food to help them overcome competition from the tree roots.
