A6 - Anaheim Gazette (Anaheim, Calif., January 15, 1900) Blasting Caps Taken From Bov Fullerton police Tuesday said they recovered 50 dangerous blasting caps from a juvenile who had brought them into the city from Las Vegas. Officers said a youth surrendered the explosive devices after a public appeal that they be handed over was made. Youngsters have admitted, police said, setting off 15 of the caps. The police plea was made after the handlebars of a bicycle were shattered by exploding one of the caps. Officers said that the detonation of the caps have become a new fad of the younger set. College Entrance Exams Scheduled College entrance examinations are being given this month at Orange Coast College to new students who will enter the college for the spring semester. Feb. 1. Correllan Thompson, associate dean of admissions and records, announced that the exams are eing given at 2 p.m. in the Counseling Center on Jan. 5, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28. NEW STUDENTS must take the college entrance examinations Orange County Begonia Society To Hear Local Man The Orange County Branch of the American Begonia Society, will hold its monthly meeting today at 7:30 p.m. at the Garden Grove Grange Hall, Century Blevard and Taft Avenue, one block south of Garden Grove Blvd. The featured speaker of evening will be Mr. Robert Ho who will speak on the timely tie of "Pruning of Roses" and answer any questions concerning rose culture. Mr. Horn, who has been Orange Coast College to new students who will enter the college for the spring semester. Feb. 1. NEW STUDENTS must take the college entrance examinations at least one week before completing registration with a counselor. No appointment is necessary to take the exams, Thompson said, but an appointment with a counselor to complete registration is necessary. New students must also have a transcript of their high school or any subsequent college work forwarded to OCC prior to registration. Further information on registration may be obtained by calling the college Counseling Center. Freshmen now attending the college are now registering Jan. 4 through 27 for the spring semester. Canines to Aid Cops Buena Park police officers will begin training with dogs as a local law enforcement practice, it has been announced. Officers joining in the program will do so on voluntary basis and will undergo an extensive training and handling course. Alumnus Honored At Fullerton JC Donald A. Jacobson of Fullerton, a graduate of Fullerton Junior College in 1958, has been named to the Dean’s Honor List at the University or California. JACOBSON entered UCLA in the fall of 1958 and made the Dean’s Honor list for academic achievement in the College of Letters and Science that semester; then won the same honor again for superior scholastic performance in the spring of 1959. Horn, who has been employed by the Bott's Nursery in Anaheim for the past four years, is a graduate of California Polytechnic. He has been affiliated with the nursery business for the past fifteen years. The speaker is also qualified in the greenhouse and landscape branche of horticulture. Tony Todaro will have charge of the plant forum and will show Brazilian cane type begonia seedlings. The meeting of the Begonia Society are open to anyone interested in attending.
