It was announced today by Howard Ahmanson, board chairman. Home, with offices at 211 E. Center St., and in four other Orange County cities, set records for assets, reserves and payments to savers. Home's assets reached $722,-511,844 on Dec. 1, 1959—an increase of $137 million during the previous 12-month period. It was a record high in assets among the nation's 6,200 savings associations. By year's end assets stretched toward the three-quarter-billion-dollar mark. Also in 1959, Home Savings' reserve fund grew to $60 million. Ahmanson estimated that during the year the association paid out $23 million to more than 250,000 savers, a $4 million increase in payments over 1958. Penguin Invasion Due January 9 Anaheim may be a long way from the Arctic Circle. However, the Anaheim Union High School auditorium is bracing itself for an invasion of penguins on January 8. The penguins will be members of the cast of "Mr. Popper's Penguins" presented by the San Fernando Valley State College play. Tickets are now available at the Park and Recreation Department office. "Mr. Popper's Penguins" concerns the hilarious antics of the Popper family when Mr. Popper decides to adopt a pair of penguins as a part of his Arctic studies. The dubious birds soon multiply and in the end nearly take over the Popper household. The Anaheim Children's Theater is under the co-sponsorship of the Park and Recreation Department and the Anaheim Jr. Ebell Club. It is designed to introduce the local youth to the "live stage" and the productions are adapted from popular parts of children's literature.
