Parents Given Reading Hints At Horace Mann PTA Meeting
Members of the Horace Mann Parent Teacher Association learned some helpful hints on how parents can help with reading when Mrs. Marcy McCall, curriculum assistant with the Anahelm Elementary Schools, addressed the group at the November general meeting.
"Do not use reading as a punishment," urged Mrs. McCall. A parent should stimulate an interest in reading by encouraging the child to read books that relate to his current interests or hobbies, such as stamps, coins or baseball.
Sterling invited any parent, terested in coaching or maging a team, to attend meetings to be held at J Marshall School in the near future.
Girl Scout Troop No. 45 og ed the meeting with the salute, and Ben Mattox, school principal, led the group community singing. Fifth grade mothers were hostesses for evening.

Chi Pi Group Holds Fifth Chapter Meet
The fifth regular meeting of the chapter year was held by Chi Pi Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, last week at the Dover Ave. home of Mrs. Percy Hildebrand.
Prior to the business meeting, a pledge ritual was read by Mrs. Don Henry, Xi Eta Eta Chapter, who is member-advisor to the Chi Pi chapter. New member Mrs. Robert Devillez was then welcomed into the group.
The business meeting was presided over by President Mrs. William Hall, and plans were made for a luncheon honoring Mrs. Devillez to be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Arnold's Farm House.
The double cultural program, entitled "Prose" was given by Mrs. Charles Dresser and Mrs. Thearman McKinney, both of whom read a short essay to the group. An amusing time was enjoyed as each member in turn spontaneously contributed to the composing of a short story combining all of the elements necessary to the conclusion of such a story.
The next meeting, which will include a toy party, will be held at Mrs. Dresser's home at 1914 E. Willow St. on Nov. 21 and will combine a ways and means project and chapter social.
Mrs. T. W. Aldrich, sorority transferee, was a guest of the evening. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Hildebrand, and she was assisted by Mrs. Henry Lestmann.
