26 Gifted Fullerton High Students Discover 350,000-Mile Error in Russian Orbit Calculation 3-2-30—26 GIFTED FULLERTON — Twenty-six gifted Fullerton High School science students have discovered a 350,000-mile positional error in a widely-used Soviet Russian astronomical publication. In uncovering the error, the Fullerton students correctly calculated the orbit of "9-Metis," one of the minor planets in our solar system. Working together as a class during a science project jointly sponsored by the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena; the Hughes Aircraft Company, Fullerton; and the Tuskegee School, the youngsters found the error in the Russian scientific research tablets, "Emphemyerdi Ma Planyet," a volume published der auspices of the International Astronomical Union in Leningrad. Published annually this volumeworldwide by astronomy gives the orbital position of minor planets (asteroids) for current year. Dr. A.
