A Living, Burning Message
Anaheim police round up 22 juveniles armed with knives, clubs, tire chains and can openers.
A band of teen-age hoodlums beat and kick an Anaheim police officer supervising a dance at Anaheim High School.
A Garden Grove detective sergeant, Myron Trapp, leaving his wife and three children, is killed in the line of duty.
Add it all up and you have unprovoked, unwanted and outright lawlessness.
Is it something that you really do want?
Is it something which you, in the desired ease of your moments, you are willing to countenance?
In the quest of easement of your conscience, are you willing to go along with juvenile lawlessness?
Do you want our West Coast, our Anaheim area, to become an inexcusable replica of the law-breaking and crime by hoods which is the shame of New York city?
Or do you want—and we mean "want"—wholehearted action to put a stop to this outbreak of juvenile delinquency and adult crime and licentiousness—this disregard of our laws.
Shall we remember—acutely and intelligently—that that American Republic is largely founded on—predicated—by respect for law?
These are ??? for you to consider soberly and seriously, with an overall and deep probing into your own conscience.
Are you a good father?
Are you a good mother?
Do you discipline your children when they need it, discipline them effectively?
Instead, do you pass them along to the schools, to the church and to the movies where you must surely know, if you think straight, they cannot receive the proper discipline and advice the home can give them?
Do you really know how your children are being raised?
Have you ever phoned approval to Anaheim police who strive to do their duty kindly even though some of these juvenile hoodlums try their patience to the breaking point?
Or, do you blame "the cops" for hurting "the little darlings," crime-bound, disregardful of law and needing a lot of "the old hairbrush" on the spot where it is needed most?
These are pertinent questions for every Anaheim father and mother to consider carefully and in consultative detail.
Ponder them thoroughly, then get out of your easy chair, read the riot act to the juvenile you have spoiled by your errancy—your own delinquency. Get him back on the right—the devent path.
Make him a decent, law-abiding American citizen.
And don't forget to phone the police, encouraging them in their line of duty.
Sometimes, you know, they die in that line of duty—they are always willing to do so. Make sure they won't have to.
It might be your boy's bullet—or sharpened, home-made knife—which fells a policeman, makes his wife a widow and his children orphans, and which sends your son to the death chair.
This is a living, burning, pertinent message to the fathers and mothers of Anaheim.
And—it is on your doorsteps.
We Thank You
The following is from Glen H. Dysinger, Sr., district superintendent, Centralia School District. Buena Park:
Parents teachers and administrators of Centralia school wish to thank you for your help in our recent tax over-ride election.
Getting information to the taxpayers about the operation and needs of our schools is one of our greatest problems. Your cooperation is reflected in our favorable vote.
And below is a letter from Everett Gillespie chairman,
Public Relations Committee, the Young Men's Christian Association of Anaheim:
As we approach National Newspaper Week, October 15-21, our YMCA Board of Directors and members extend appreciation to the Anaheim Gazette organization for your interest and cooperation during the past year.
We feel character training benefits and understanding have increased through your newspaper endeavors.
We congratulate your organization at this time and extend the best wishes of the Anaheim YMCA for your continued success and progress.
