Exposition Shows Industrial Might of Orange County
The tremendous and widespread "might" of Orange County industrial is on display this week during the first annual Orange County Industrial Exposition at Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Thousands of visitors already have attended the expo which opened with a preview Tuesday and the regular opening Wednesday night. Somewhat of a "county fair for industry," the show offers something for every member of the family.
Exhibits feature space hardware from real rocketships to mockups of guided missiles and small scale models of aircraft and missiles manufactured with parts components and tools furnished by Orange County Industries. Younsters who are up to the minute on their rocketry are guiding parents through the missile displays.
For the women, the show features a display of the U.S. Rubber Company in which rubber "waffles" are made. These definitely are not waffles like mother used to make, but they help show the kind of foam rubber used in manufacture of the latest furniture for the home, said one company official.
Live demonstrations of "how-me-do!" are presented by many
Even the entertainment has a flavor added by Orange County industry.
"Speedy" West, late of the "Hometown Jamboree" television show, headlines the entertainment and plays his music on an electric steel guitar manufactured in Fallerton.
The big fair is open public nightly from 6 to 9 through Friday and will from 1 to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
The county's first "fair" is sponsored by the cited Chambers of Commerce Orange County.

H. I. Perry, your Telephone Manager in Anaheim

This is a "switchboard on wheels"—a complete telephone central office built right into a big truck trailer. Its job is to help phone people keep vital calls going through during emergencies. You see, we can send these switchboards on wheels wherever they're needed and hook them up to hundreds of phone lines in a matter of hours. Then operators work right from these trailers, keeping important calls going—fire, police, hospital, civil defense, and such. It's one way we work to keep phone service ready when it's needed most.
UNITED FUND
The Anaheim United Fund is just one of 2,100 United Funds and Community Chests in the United States and Canada. These United Funds support 27,500 agencies. Your Anaheim United Fund supports 14 local agencies. So you can see, giving the United Fund way, more of your money goes where you want it to and not to administrative and campaign cost. Anaheim is a rapidly expanding area. The need for the 14 Human Service Agencies is urgent. Let's not fail them.
One way to meet our goal is through the payroll deduction plan. Give a little each month. It won't hurt you and it will help so many others. Giving the United way is the best way because you give to just one campaign a year, help more people and save more lives.

County Planners Reserve Request For New Church
The Orange County Planning Commission has taken under advisement a request for establishment of a First Brethren Church—conditionally approved Nov. 12, 1958—on the west side of Highway 39, some 1,200 feet north of Imperial Highway.
The proposed church, now conducted in a private dwelling on the site, is within a proposed annexation to La Habra.
The commissioners cast a doubtful eye on requests for excavation pits throughout Orange County.
Application of Muench & Kietke for a pit between Fee Ana St. and Richfild Rd., north of the Santa Ana ricer and 560 feet south of Walnut St., was denied. It has vigorous opposition.
More than five million cubic yards of material is available in the Santa Ana river bed, and in view of this the County Flood Control District asks that no excavations be approved outside the river at present.
Planners approved excavations on the east side of Fullerton Rd., some 1,040 feet north of Whittier Blvd., for Sullivan Miller Construction Co.
Kuchel to Speak In San Francisco

The four-day meeting marks the 61st annual conference of the League of California Cities, it's president being Mayor John Erreca of Los Banos.
Councilman Charles A. Pearson of Anaheim and City Treasurer Grover Hermes Jr. of Fullerton, are on the board of directors.
Bolt Promoted
Roy C. Bolt, assistant general manager of Kwikset Sales and Service Co., has been named vice president of the parent company, the American Hardware Corporation, New Britain, Conn., and also manager of the Kwikset Division. He also remains as vice president of the Kwikset Sales and Service Co.
Almost any efficiency expert can speed up another man's business.
The big fair is open to the public nightly from 6 to 11 p.m. through Friday and will be open from 1 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The county's first industrial "fair" is sponsored by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange County.
It features more than 100 exhibits and probably will draw more than 50,000 visitors during its five-day run at the fairgrounds, according to exposition officials.

Jewish People in Area Begin Celebrating Succot Festival
People of the Jewish faith in the Anaheim area begin to celebrate the Festival of Succot (Festival of the Tabernacle) this Friday evening.
Services at Temple, Beth Sholom, Orange County. 206 E. Elghth st., Santa Ana, will be held Friday night at 9 o'clock and Saturday morning at 11:15 o'clock. Concluding services will be Friday night. Oct. 23 at 9 o'clock and Saturday morning, Oct. 24 at 11:15 o'clock. Succot commemorates the manner in which the ancient Israelites lived in the desert during the travels from Egyptian bondage toward their Land of Promise.
Because of their belief that they were kept alive by Divine Providence, the Jews of Biblical days ordained the holiday as a time of thanksgiving to God. Later, when Palestine was settled, Succot became a time of gratitude for the autumnal harvest. It is referred Festival of the Ingathering.
Traditional Jews observe Succot for nine days; liberal Jews for eight. Final days of Succot are given over to the rejoicing over the Torah, Divine teachings which came to the ancient Israelites during their desert wanderings. On the last day, known as Simchat Torah, the joy of Torah, the cycle of readings from the Petateuch is completed with the last verses of Deuteronomy and immediately resume with the beginning of Genesis.
Characteristic of the Succot ritual is this passage from the prayerbook:
