Anaheim Joins for United Fund Appeal
Anaheim and the Western Cities of the Union High School District is right in the middle of another United Fund campaign. Last year's successful campaign proved that "Anaheim United" means success and with the success of last year's campaign fresh in their minds, the United Fund workers are confident they will soon have their 1959 quota of $225,000 raised.
The United Fund is, perhaps, one of the most united efforts in Anaheim and the Western Cities Area. It brings together, for one united purpose, industry, professional people, school workers, business leaders and housewives. All join together and give of their time to see that the United Fund campaign is a success.
They want it to be a success because on their results depend the future of 14 "Hometown" Human Service Groups. These agencies have submitted budgets for next year's services and the United Fund leaders and the Citizens Advisory Committee have approved their budgets. It now remains for the money to be raised.
A total of 1,600 volunteer workers will join in soliciting funds for the United Fund this year. This shows that the workers put faith in the old adage that "in union there is strength." This point was mentioned by Mrs. Martha Schumacher, president of the women's division again this year, when she called for another successful drive in this division.
Women are working under the leadership of Mrs. Schumacher in this campaign because they know if she can afford her time and services to this worthy cause, as busy as she is, then certainly, they should not refuse to give freely of their time. And they are not refusing. They are enthusiastic and well organized. They have heard the need for at least a goal of $225,000 and they will soon be out to tell the story to other housewives in our area. Social men who have tight schedules to Likewise, busy housewives, profes-keep, and school workers and city employees are all in this United Fund together. They all realize that the other fellow is out to do his share and he must not fail.
Your fare share of giving, it has been agreed, would be one hour's pay per month for twelve months. If this is all you are asked to give, be thankful you were asked to join with these 1,600 workers who are giving a like amount, plus their volunteer time.
Yes, it is really Anaheim and the Western Cities United, and it is proving to be the only smart way to be sure that these worthy Human Service Groups are fully financed in their work in our community.
Give now to our United Fund. It is your opportunity to feel good and know that you are making your contribution to help make this a better united community.

HUMAN SERVICE—"You help MORE PEOPLE the UNITED WAY with at least ONE HOUR'S PAY PER MONTH." Typical of the 14 Human Service Groups of the United Fund for Anaheim and the Western Cities of the Union High School District is the Orthopaedic and Children's Hospital and the Crippled Children's Relief Association. Gary, aged 8, limbers up while awaiting therapy treatment at the Orthopaedic Hospital.

VER THE TOP—City Manager Keith Murdoch (right), chairman of the governmental division of the United Fund appeal here, tells Fred Krein, campaign chairman, that Murdoch's division is the first one to go over the top in this year's drive. The amount raised is 20 per cent more than last year.
"My fellow Americans:
There are many things about our nation which excite a sense of pride...but one quality of America stands out...
this is the quick response of our citizens to their neighbors in need...
The child's accident, the trapped miners, the suffering in a tornado—these are examples of the emergencies of life.
We read and hear about them and we are moved to sympathy and help. But most of the human crises which occur each day never reach the headlines....Somebody must keep an eye on them and show us the way to help....This is the purpose of the united community campaigns...
Right now these united campaigns are getting under way in some two thousand communities across the land. They provide us with a splendid opportunity to express the traditional neighborly concern of America...

"The campaign in your area...represents the largest, the most inclusive annual appeal to which any of us will be asked to give this year. Joined in...are the familiar voluntary agencies that care for our children, give counseling to troubled families, heal the sick of mind and body....Indeed, I don't know of any one gift we can make which will mean so much to so many people."
"...I am confident that our hands and hearts will be ready to welcome the volunteer worker who will soon call on us seeking our pledge of support...""
