Helene St. were the honored guests on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary when they were entertained Sunday at IOOF Hall by relatives, friends and members of Lois Rebekah Lodge 268. The special event was planned by Mrs. Waite's sister, Mrs. Al Hoppe of Canoga Park and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Gordon Wentzel of Anaheim and the Lois bekahs. Highlight of the affair was a surprise visit from a sister, Mrs. R. A. Carlson of Denver, Colo., and a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Garrett and three daughters of Guatemala City, Guatemala, C. A. To receive guests, Mrs. Walte wore a silver grey lace over pink dress with matching accessories. Members of the family presented her with a carnation corsage and Mr. Walte with a carnation boutonniere. The couple recited their nuptial vows in 1934 in Gullph. N. D. They were honored by relatives and members of Rebekah Lodge 268 of Anaheim. Temple Beth Emet Conducting Series Temple Beth Emet is currently conducting a series of sermons on personal religion every Friday evening this month. Rabbi Aaron J. Tofleld, Temple spiritual leader, is delivering the sermons at Sabbath eve worship services which begins at 8:30 p.m. The Temple's Sunday School and Hebrew School will open registration for the fall semester Aug. 23. The Temple has also announced that an older teenage social group for young people of this age group are welcome to join regardless of Temple affiliations. Information is available at LE 9-8937. Hi-Schools Name Foreign Students For This Year Western High School joins for the first time with Anaheim High School in the foreign exchange student program with the enrollment in its first senior class of two foreign students, Karin Gertrude Wildeman of Stockholm, Sweden, and Joel Gerard Poinsot of Macon, France. Anaheim High School will welcome two also, Terista Domingo of Manila, and Okira Nakajira of Japan. Names of the students were released by the American Field Service headquarters under which the foreign exchange student program operates. While here Karin Wildeman will make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Lenzi Alfred, 116 S. Magnolia Ave., and Joel Poinsot will have as his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Martin, 719 N. Gilbert. Veterans of World War I of the United States of America have released a statement to the press in an effort to dispel false impressions sometimes entertained by the general public concerning their organization. The Veterans of World War I and its Auxiliary has also been formed for the sole purpose of having fun, states a spokesman for the two groups. It is not a social club. The purpose of its members is to work for the good of the veterans and to pass legislation which will be to their benefit. Their present aim is to pass A World Club Editor My Waites Feted on Silver Anniversary Mrs. Roy F. Walte of Delene St. were the honors on the occasion of her wedding anniversary and were entertained Sun-OOF Hall by relatives, and members of Lois Rebekah Lodge 268. Special event was planned Waite's sister, Mrs. Al Canoga Park and her law, Mrs. Gordon Wentzlaim and the Lois Mrs. Harry Robison cut and served the cake. Among the many gifts received by the couple was a money tree and hearts and flowers presented by the members of Lois Rebekah Lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Walte were married in 1934 in Gullph. N. D. in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wentzel, by the Rev. A. R. Bast. They have lived in Anahelm since 1943. The couple traveled to their hometown, Gullph, N. D., this past June and also spent some time with relatives in Colorado and Mifinesota. While in Gullph, they were entertained with an anniversary party given by their son, Roland, and his wife, and members of Lois Rebekah Lodge of Gullph. Alpha Xi Chapter Installs Tonight Impressive ceremonies for the initiation and installation of Alpha Xi, the new Fullerton chapter of Kappa Phi Sigma Sorority will be held tonight in the Terrace Room of the Palms Restaurant in Anaheim. They are sponsored by Alpha Iota, the Anaheim chapter of Kappa Phi Sigma, whose charming member, Mrs. Wayne Moyers was acting member advisor during Alpha Xi's six month pledge period. The new chapter will be installed by Mrs. Mary Plancich, the regent president. The beautiful "Ritual of Roses," candlelight ceremony will be performed by the founder of Kappa Phi Sigma, Mrs. Aline Kinsey of Santa Fe Springs. All members, regent officers and Los Angeles District Council officers will be invited. New officers for the Alpha Xi 1959-60 season will be: Mrs. Theron Stewart, president; Mrs. Edward Sanders, vice-president; Mrs. William West, secretary; Mrs. William Ferdi, treasurer; Mrs. Arnold Brion, Mrs. Robert Johnson, extension officers. Other members are Mrs. David Baughman, Mrs. Robert Bogart and Mrs. Eugene Stoddard. The Crippled Children's Relief Association will be one of the participating human service groups in the United Fund for the Anahelm area for the first time this year, and representing the Association on the Fund's board of directors will be Miss E. Kate Rea, long-time resident of Anaheim. Back in 1925, Miss Rea became interested in the Crippled Children's Relief Association of Orange County because, as she put it, "I observed the wonderful service being rendered on a voluntary basis by some of my friends in this field of human endeavor, and I agreed to lend a hand." Miss Rea has been actively engaged in the service of the oldest society for crippled children in the state of California since this date, and has served as its president since 1935. One hundred percent of the funds received by the Association as the result of participation in the United Fund Campaign will be used right here at home in Anahelm, Centralia, Cypress, Los Alamitos, Magnolia and Stanton. The same is true of the Children's Hospital and Orthopaedic Hospital of Los Angeles which are included in the $225,000 campaign goal for only that portion of free service. TRUMPET PLAYER — Rafael Mendez, often called the "greatest trumpet player in the world," poses with his instrument while rehearsing for his appearance with the Orange County Philharmonic Orchestra, Frieda Belinfante conducting, at Irvine Bowl Aug. 22. The "under the stars" concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. About 1200 unreserved free seats are available to the public on a first come, first served basis at the Bowl. Barbershop Singers To Be Featured Nothing rounds out a musical series like a barbershop quartet, and the Fullerton Chapter of Barbershoppers will do just that when they appear at the Greek Theatre on Friday, Aug. 14, at 7:45 to perform in the "Under the Stars" musical series sponsored by the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department. The singers, the sixth group to perform so far in the series, follow the Anaheim Symphony Orchestra which was presented last Friday. The Fullerton Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America has been active for about three years with a membership of more than forty men. The group has its own annual show and has appeared at many Members of Delta Tau Alpha, former drill team members who once practiced under Mrs. Helen Grunenfelder, will meet Tuesday for a business meeting and buffet dinner at the Palms Restaurant. Dues will be collected and a tentative date set for their Christmas charity dance. The affair will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Donald Oldaker, president, will conduct the meeting. The Loyal Order of Moose of Anaheim and its auxiliary, the Women of the Moose will hold their weekly fish fry tomorrow followed by a social and card party at their new home, 1224 N. Palm. Members of the Veterans of World War I Would Dispel Impressions of General Public a bill giving them $100 per month pension regardless of income or financial status. It would provide also for hospitalization anytime they are in need of medical treatment. The average age of these veterans is 65. They feel they merit these benefits free and clear and without investigations to their ability to pay. It is estimated that there are 2,800,000 veterans of World War I living today, and all are urged to join this organization. Talk on Traveling Members of the Anaheim Optimist Club will hear a talk on traveling tonight at their regular dinner-meeting at 7 at Boys' Youth Center. Moose Lodge Honors Athlete Jim Martin, Detroit Lions star football player, and also star bowler for the Anaheim Moose Lodge, was entertained with a send-off party, before leaving for training, by his Lodge brothers at their new home, 1224 N. Palm, last Friday. Gifts were presented by the governor, Phil Belisto, on behalf of the Lodge. Anaheim Lodge 1853, Loyal Order of Moose held their first social event in their new quarters Saturday with a Bar-B-Que chicken dinner and a dance. On Aug. 15 the Anaheim Lodge will honor Jack Heilder, present vice-president of the South Central District. Heilder has held office for the past two years and devoted much of his time to the Moose Lodge's various activities including the blood banks, retarded children program and many other civic affairs. Miss Rea, in explaining the work of the Association notes. A former school teacher in the Anaheim High School and Junior High, she and the late Miss Elea-nor Parker organized the first Parent Teachers Association in Anaheim in 1909 Miss Rea served as a member of the Anaheim Elementary School Board for sixteen years and is the only surviving charter member of the Ebell Club in the city. Theatre Guild Meets In Fairmont School ... The monthly meeting of the Anaheim Theatre Guild was held Monday, in the Fairmont School Barn, 11341 Mabel St., Anaheim. The meeting had previously been scheduled to be held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Myers of Stanton, but the need for increased seating made it necessary for the Theatre Guild to change the meeting to the Fairmont School Barn.
