St. Anthony Claret Women's Council Slates Active Year At a recent board meeting, plans for a very active year were presented by Mrs. Larry Bomkamp, president of the Council of Catholic Women of St. Anthony Claret parish. A fashion show will be held Oct. 3 at the Royal Hawaiian Restaurant. Mrs. Al Schinsky will act as chairman of the event. The annual rummage sale will be held Oct. 28, 29, 30 and 31 in the old bowling alley on So. Los Angeles St. and all members are urged to save articles for the sale. A "come as you are brunch" will be the highlighted event for the month of November. Because members will be invited by surprise, no date can be revealed for this event. On Dec. 4 and 5, a used toy sale will be featured. Mrs. Pat Olsen will act as chairman. Mrs. Don Arford has accepted the chairmanship of the combined four-parish dance to be held on New Years Eve. Details will be presented later. A Pre-Lenten Mardi-Gras ball will be held on Feb. 27. The time and place will be published at a future date. From this point on, the annual parish Fiesta, to be held the last week end in April, will be the main concern of the Council. Details for each event will be published as the time approaches. All proceeds will be donated to the parish building fund. Constance Carr Becomes Bride of Will Candlelight Nuptial Ceremony in Garden Pink gladiolus, carnations and stock adorned the altar at the Fisrt Presbyterian Church in Garden Grove for the candlelight nuptial ceremony uniting Constance Joyce Garr of Garden Grove and William Albert Warch of Anaheim. The Rev. T. Gillespie officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Garr of Garden Grove and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willy Hendrickson of 629 Pepper Anaheim. Given in marriage by her father the bride entered the church wearing her own design in a floor length gown of lace over satin fashloned with a bouffant skirt and train scattered with appliqued lace flowers. The princess lines of the gown featured also a sweetheart neckline and long tapered sleeves. A delicate pearl-encrusted crown held her fingertip veil to her short hair. A single pearl on a chain, gift from the bridegroom, was her only jeweled adornment. She carried an orchid centered stephanotis bouquet on a white Bible. Matron of Honor Mrs. Caroline Selbert, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a short pink crystalline dress trimmed with streamers of green chiffon crossed in front and trailing down in back, and she carried a white basket of pink daisies. Rockhounds to Meet In Anaheim Tonight "Rock-hunting in Baja California" will be the subject of the year's outstanding program, when The Searchers Gem & Mineral Society hold their regular monthly meeting tonight at 7:30. Speaker is Glenn Vargas of Thermal, who is well-known to California rockhounds and lapidarists as a teacher of lapidary arts and widely traveled rock and gem hobbyist. Vargas is well-qualified to discuss Baja California from a rockhound's viewpoint, as he has made numerous field trips into remote areas of this part of Mexico and has many beautiful slides to illustrate his talk. He will be accompanied by his wife, Martha, who is a talented lapidarist and creative silversmith in her own right; both of the Vargases having won numerous awards at mineralogy shows all over the West Coast. Mr. and Mrs. Vargas both teach Lapidary Arts in Palm Springs schools, and belong to several mineralogy clubs. Their home in Thermal is a showplace for rock and gem hobbyists, and members of The Searchers are urged to attend this outstanding program and bring their friends along, too. The meeting will be held at the usual place, 211 East Center St., in Anaheim. The Ohio State Club will meet in the round house at Santiago Park in Santa Ana July 24 for a share-a-dish dinner at 6:30 p.m. Coffee will be furnished. Mrs. Caroline Selbert, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. All the attendants' gowns were designed by the bride. Claude Krug, fraternity brother of the bridegroom was best man. Ushering were Dan and Dave Wall, uncles of the bridegroom, Howard Garr, brother of the bride, and Dick Joyner and Lowell Kolb. Miss Elleen Medivic was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Helen Burns at the organ. Selections included "Because," "O Perfect Love" and "The Wedding Song." Danny Wall and Dick Joyner were candlelighters. A reception for 300 was held at 'Guys and Dolls' Set At OCC July 30 "Guys and Dolls," the musical comedy which was taken its place along with other smash hits of Broadway, will be presented by Orange Coast College Thursday, July 30; Friday, July 31 and Saturday Aug. 1 in the college auditorium. One of the major roles in the comedy will be played by Fred Frank, 325 N. Pine St., Anaheim. Curtain time for the production will be 8:15 p.m. Seats for all performances will be reserved. Tickets are on sale Mondays through Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon in the auditorium box office. Members of the Zion Lutheran Fellowship enjoyed a day at Noname Lake near Corona last weekend where 31 persons went trout fishing and later held a potluck supper featuring fried trout. Floyd D. Bakers Canada Following Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Donald Baker are honeymooning at Lake Louise and Banff, Canada, following their marriage in a candlelight ceremony performed in the Garden Grove Chapel at Capilla de San Antonio by Dr. John Vander Meulen of the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Ramsberger of Garden Grove and her husband is the son of Stanley J Baker of 817 W. Broadway, Anaheim. Baskets of gladioli, agapanthus and larkspur formed the chapel decor and complemented the pastel colors of the attendants' gowns. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore traditional white in imported Chantilly lace over taffeta fashioned with Sabrina neckline and long tapered sleeves. A panel of seed pearls and sequins trimmed the lace that extended from the bodice to the hemline in front. Alternate rows of lace and pleated ruffles fashioned. She wore white lace over satin fashioned with a scalloped neckline and short shirred sleeves, and a bouffant full length skirt. Her fingertip veil was held to her hair by a pillbox headpiece and she carried a bouquet of white roses and white stock. Miss Marie Legerstrand of Van Nuys served as maid of honor wearing mint green in a ballerina length gown and carrying pink carnations in a cascade bouquet. The bridegroom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Legerstrand of Van Nuys, chose Joseph Doyle of Anaheim for his best man. A garden reception was held for an intimate group at 2123 W. Crestwood Lane where Mrs. Joseph Doyle, the bride's sister, was hostess. Another sister, Roseann Brunson, attended the guest book. The bride is a 1958 graduate of Anaheim High School and has been employed at S. H. Kreas and Company in Anaheim. Her husband was educated in Norwalk. MRS.. E. LEGERSTRAND ... Judith Engel and is employed by Weiserlocks in South Gate. Following a honeymoon trip to Big Bear, the young couple returned to make their first home at 119 Fahrion Pl. World War I Women Hold Dinner-Meet A potluck dinner and meeting was held last evening by the Auxiliary to Anaheim Barracks 1235, Veterans of World War I, at the Anaheim American Legion Hall. The meeting was open to all veterans of World War I and their wives, as well as mothers, widows, sisters and daughters eligible for membership. Salk PTA Presents Check to Troop 38 For New Flags At their first Parents Night gathering, Scout Troop 38 of Anaheim was presented a check for the purchase of their troop flags by their sponsors, the Dr. Jonas E. Salk Parent-Teacher Association. On behalf of the organization Mrs. John Lopez, president and Mrs. George P. Karcher, first vice president presented the check to Scoutmaster Edward A. Smith, who turned the gift over to chairman of the Troop committee, Larry Sauls. The Parents Night meeting was held to give all parents of the boys a look at what is happening each regular meeting night of the Scout Troop. The program began with an inspection of the troop conducted by Scoutmaster Smith and his assistant scoutmasters, James Donley and Larry Wendt. Games were played with scores kept of the points that each patrol won, Senior Patrol Leader Larry Wendt, Jr., led the cheer for the winning Eagle Patrol. A candlelight ceremony with 12 candles, each signifying a part of the scout law was held and candidates were given their first award in scouting, their tenderfoot badges. The following boys had met their tenderfoor requirements: Dennis Clark, Stephen Donley, Gary Griswold, Blaine Rutherford, Donald Sauls, Nick Scarpine and Lawrence Wendt. Troop committeemen present along with many parents were: Philomelas' First Sun Meet Features 'Gram Mrs. Daniel Halliday, newly installed president of the Philomelas Toastmistress Club, presided when the first meeting of the summer-fall term was called to order. This meeting held at the home of Mrs. John Pherigo, was the club's an-program. Each member drew her assignment for the evening upon annual Impromptu, or "grab bag" arrival. The highlight of the meeting was the impromptu speeches given by Mrs. James Jones and Mrs. Ethel Ruth Gibbony. Mrs. Gibbony used many illustrations to make her point — the importance of paying attention to others—in "The Lost Art of Listening." Miss Alleen Hodgson who had drawn the assignment of Toastmistress, introduced the speakers and the member evaluators, Mr. Rober Berns, and Mrs. William Powell, and Mrs. Robert C. Morgan, who served as general evaluator. In keeping with the "grab-bag" night, Mrs. John Titus, as Topic mistress, had each member drop one small item from her purse into a paper bag. These, then were drawn out, one at a time and elaborated upon by the top participants. Mrs. Wesley Hickman, as lexicologist, urged the use of colorful synonyms to replace the word "real." Prichard of Anaheim Attendance Given Average daily attendance in Anaheim junior high and high schools for the 1958-59 school year was 10,685. The Navy Mothers of Anaheim 841 entertained the patients in the tuberculosis ward of Long Beach Veterans Hospital Monday. Gifts were presented to those observing birthdays and bingo was played. Cookies and punch were served. An account of the installation of Council number one officers was presented by the new club representative, Mrs. Bill Wilson. She reported that, the "Malihini" club of Hawaii, has been assigned to Council No. 1, which heretofore, has consisted only of Toastmistress clubs in Orange County and the Long Beach area. To welcome its first overseas club, the council program followed the Hawaiian theme in dress as well as decorations. Mrs. Wilson also reported that Mrs. Titus, immediate past chairman of the council has been officially designated as the corresponding representative for the Malihini club. Beginning July 23, the Philomela club will meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Edison School in Anaheim. Scheduled as speakers at the next meeting are the club's three newest members, Mrs. Berns, Mrs. Meursinge and Mrs. Hickman. ORANGE — A total of 356 persons are enrolled in the first class. 'AY Camp Sessions To Begin Monday' A full-day camp of 170 Anaheim area boys and girls will begin the fifth YMCA Day Camp for boys and girls 6 - 12 years of age Monday morning. Among activities planned are a day at Irvine Park, a morning swim at Santa Ana plunge, a trip to Marineland and an overnight camp at O'Neill Park. Four special busses pick up campers near their homes and transport them to camping locations. There are a few openings in the final period scheduled for July 27-31. YMCA officials have commended the directors and group leaders of the day camp program for their services. The camp is a project of the United Fund-related Anaheim YMCA. Alamitos Friends Schedule Barbecue Plans are under way for the annual barbecue sponsored by the Alamitos Friends Church to be held the first Saturday in September. The huge feast is open to the public and will feed approximately 2000 in the church garden. As in other years, the beef for the barbecue will be roasted underground at the Buffalo Ranch.
