The wholesale removal of all sheep from off the lands of the Land company is being inaugurated. By the time the next shearing season comes the large herds of well-watched sheep that have heretofore been so profitable a product and of no damage to agriculturists, will have been removed to distant and remote regions. The hundreds of bales of wool for which so many hundreds of 20 gold pieces have found their way to our sheep men and finally to Anaheim merchants, have been drained into other channels, and we will be sorely hurt. So far as we can learn the sheep owners are not permitted to rent lands for their sheep, even though they pledge themselves to vacate in case of sale of the land. This is manifestly another item in the crawfish progress of the Los Angeles and San Bernardino Land company.
We are informed that there is an exceedingly good prospect that the railroad from here to the Landing will be built. It is said that the wherewith is really forthcoming.
Charles A. Gardner, Esq., attorney-at-law, leaves Anaheim tomorrow for Portland, Ore., where he has formed a most desirable place where he may reside.
The engineer at the electrical power house reports that 579 electric lights are now in use, and when we consider that the capacity of the works is based upon a 500 light machine, we can at once get to a realization of the fact that the works are now running beyond their capacity. It is estimated that a 500 light machine will stand 600 lights when absolutely necessary, but the number already in use, while approaching closely this outside limit, is just about as far as the city authorities feel they can go at the present time. As applications for some 200 lights and upwards have already been made there is nothing to do but to vote an increase in the power of our lighting plant.
The Placentia society met at the school house last Friday evening and decided the debate, "Resolved that the pen is mightier than the sword," in the negative and quite justly so. Mr. McFadden and Principal Krick of the public school argued from the affirmative point of view and Thomas Strain and Mr. Montgomery supported the negative. The judges decided unanimously that the sword—the arbitrament of warfare—was the mightier of the two. They were eminently correct. Charles A. Gardner, Esq., attorney-at-law, leaves Anaheim tomorrow for Portland, Ore., where he has formed a most desirable law partnership and where he proposes to make his future home. Mr. Gardner is one of our most useful citizens and his many friends regret that circumstances are calling him so suddenly to new fields of labor.
We understand that Don Mateo Keller has sent to Demorava for plantings of ginger, bananas, guavas, alligator pears, pineapple, breadfruit and arrow root.
The Anaheim Water Company is about to take measures to allow persons owning large tracts to purchase water rights for a portion of the same with certain provisions. Heretofore an owner of 80 acres of land could not purchase a water right for 40 acres of his land.
The Anaheim Brass band is making fine progress and will soon make a public appearance. Among its members are Charles F. Lehrman, Albert Johnson, N. H. Mitchell, Charles Greeley and E. A. Pullen.
Camplaint is made that worthless curs are not being taxed in our city, while blooded country pups visiting in town have to wear their pass tags. If this is the case our city dog law is an aristocratic swindle.
There are only three palm trees in this county. That at San Juan Capistrano is the oldest. It is said to have been planted in 1870 for Father Junipero Serra.
The ladies of Anaheim are making preparations to hold a fair and festival in aid of the Presbyterian church.
George Bixby of the Rancho Los Cerritos passed through town on Saturday morning with his pack of 15 well-trained hounds, en route to Wilmington where he went to join a party of Los Angeles friends with their hounds for a coyote hunt.
John Hart, the well known Los Angeles capitalist, was in town yesterday afternoon on a short business visit and called in and paid us four years subscription. John has abandoned the plano business and is now selling tea.
Count Bozenta was in town on Friday visiting friends and was the guest of Mr. Dickle. Madam Modjeska remains at her mountain home at Arden in the Santiago canyon where she is quite ill, being under the care of Dr. Bullard.
It was learned yesterday that Inspector Flint has been approached by those favoring the change in location and on his visit here Saturday he gave petitions to both sides, for and against moving the post office. They are now out and are being presented to the citizens for signatures. Mr. Flint will be in town again next Saturday when it is said, the matter will be settled concerning the removal of the post office so far as his recommendation to the department at Washington is concerned.

BUEL W. DUNHAM, SR.
Buel W. Dunham, Sr., native of Illinois who came California 30 years ago and had resided in Orange County 20 years and who for more a year had lived at 556 Wood, Anaheim, died Friday ning at the family home after extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Martha B. Dunhaw two sons, Buel W. Jr., of T and Frederick S. of Fuller two sisters, Mrs. Harriet C of Chicago and Mrs. Ruby ley of Louisville, Ky., and grandchildren.
For eight years he was owner and operator of theance Home Appliance store Santa Ana. Funeral services conducted Monday, March the Chapel of Melrose Mausoleum. Elder Fred B. J.of Santa Ana, officiated. He was in Melrose Abbey Mer Park, Hilgenfeld Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AMENDING ARTICLE IX CHAPTER 2, Section $200.15 B, 2, Subparagraph "e" and "d" of the Anaheim Municipal Code, reading as follows:
"SECTION $200.15, VARIANCES.
R. PROCEDURE:
I. INDIVIDUAL PROCEDURE IF APPEARED:
c. Not more than forty days following said hearing the Council shall announce its findings by formal resolution and said resolution shall recite, among other things, the facts and reasons which, in the opinion of the Council, make the granting or denial of the variance necessary to carry out the general purpose of this Court.
d. The action by the Council on such matters shall be final and conclusive," be, and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 2.
That Article IX, Chapter 2, Section $200.16 A, Subparagraphs 8 and 9 of the Anaheim Municipal Code, reading as follows:
SECTION $200.16. AMENDMENTS
A. PROCEDURE:
c. Not more than forty days following said hearing the Council shall announce its findings by formal resolution and said resolution shall recite, among other things, the facts and reasons which, in the opinion of the Council, make the granting or denial of the amendment necessary to carry out the general purpose of this Court.
d. The action by the Council on such matters shall be final and conclusive," be, and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3.
This ordinance is hereby declared to be an urgency ordinance and its enactment as an urgency ordinance is necessary for the protection of the public welfare and it shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. The facts constituting such urgency are as follows:
That the City Council has employed a consulting expert to make a study of the zoning of the City of Anaheim and to make recommendations for the adoption of a new zoning ordinance, and that such study has been made and completed and numerous hearings have been held before the City Engineer and in accordance with plans and specifications on file in the Office of the City Engineer.
That the owners of subject property place of record standard City of Anaheim R-2 Deed Restrictions, approved by the City Attorney, which restrictions shall limit the dwelling now, therefore THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

Buel W. Dunham, Sr., 68, a resident of Illinois who came to California 30 years ago and who resided in Orange County for years and who for more than year had lived at 556 Hazelwood, Anaheim, died Friday evening at the family home after an extended illness. He is survived his wife, Martha B. Dunham; his sons, Buel W. Jr., of Tustin, Frederick S. of Fullerton; sisters, Mrs. Harriet Churan Chicago and Mrs. Ruby Longo of Louisville, Ky., and three children.
For eight years he was the owner and operator of the Reliance Home Appliance store in Santa Ana. Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 30, in Chapel of Melrose Abbey usoleum. Elder Fred B. Jensen, Santa Ana, officiated. Burial is in Melrose Abby Memorial Park. Hilgenfeld Mortuary was charge of arrangements.
The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once within fifteen (15) days after its adoption in the Anaheim Gazette, a newspaper of general circulation, printed on general circulated said City and immediately upon and after its passage it shall take effect and be in full force.

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES ORDAIN AS POLLOWS:

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission of the City of Anaheim did heretofore duly pass and adopt a resolution declaring its intention to change the boundaries of the zone of Anaheim as described and did fix a time and place for the holding of a public hearing thereon in the manner and as prescribed in Article IX. Chapter 10 of the Anaheim Municipal Code and did duly hold and conduct a public hearing to consider such proposed change of zone or zones, and did receive evidence and reports that presented the request for a public hearing upon said proposed change or changes of zone, and did give notice thereof in the manner and as provided in said Article X, Chapter 2 of the Anaheim Municipal Code; and WHEREAS, at the time and place fixed for said public hearing the City Council did hold and conduct such public hearing and did give all information to be heard and did receive evidence and reports, and did therefore consider the recommendations of the City Planning Commission, and did adopt Resolutions No. 4900 and 1986, finding and determining that a change or changes of zone should be made as set forth in said resolution.
NOW THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1:
That Article DX, Chapter 2 of the Anaheim Municipal Code "establishing zones in the City of Anaheim and therein regulating the use of land, height of buildings and yard spaces; adopting a map showing the boundaries of said zone; defining the terms used in said Article and Chap. 2 of this section; prescribing penalties for violation and repealing all sections or parts of sections in conflict therewith" be, and the samereal property within such territory hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the City of Anaheim this 24th day of March, 1969.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM APPROVING THE ANNOYMENT TO THE CITY OF ANAHEIM OF THE TERRITORY KNOWN AND DESIGNATED AS "BROOKHURST-KATELLA ANNEXATION"
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That City Council of the City of Anaheim did on the 10th day of February, 1959, by its Resolution No. 5038 institute proceedings on its own initiative for the annexation of certain new uninhabited territory described in said resolution.
That before the passage and adoption of said Resolution, the proposal for the annexation of the territory hereafter described to the City of Anaheim was submitted to the Boundary Commission of the County of Orange, State of California, and received upon by said Boundary Commission with respect to the definiteness and certainty of the proposed boundaries, the non-conformance of proposed boundaries with lines of assessment or ownership, the creation of islands or corridors of unincorporated territory and other similar matters affecting the proposed boundaries.
That said territory proposed to be annexed to the City of Anaheim is situated in the County of Orange, State of California, and is continuous to the City of Anaheim, is uninhabited territory, and does not form a part of any municipal corporation.
That said Resolution contained a description of said territory in words and figures as herein in this Ordinance described.
That said Resolution No. 5038 was duly passed by said City Council of the City of Anaheim specifically described the boundaries of the territory so proposed to be annexed to the City of Anaheim and designated such territory as "BROOKHURST-KATELLA ANNEXATION" and gave notice of such annexation and fixed the 17th day of March, 1969, at the hour of 1:00 o'clock P.M. at the City Council of the City of Anaheim as the day, hour and place for hearing of written protests to said annexation and when and where any person owns property within such territory hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the City of Anaheim this 24th day of March, 1969.

That before the passage and adoption of said Resolution, the proposal for the annexation of the territory hereafter described to the City of Anaheim was submitted to the Boundary Commission of the County of Orange, State of California, and received upon by said Boundary Commission with respect to the definiteness and certainty of the proposed boundaries, the non-conformance of proposed boundaries with lines of assessment or ownership, the creation of islands or corridors of unincorporated territory and other similar matters affecting the proposed boundaries.
That said territory proposed to be annexed to the City of Anaheim is situated in the County of Orange, State of California, and is continuous to the City of Anaheim, is uninhabited territory, and does not form a part of any municipal corporation.
That said Resolution contained a description of said territory in words and figures as herein in this Ordinance described.
That said Resolution No. 5038 was duly passed by said City Council of the City of Anaheim specifically described the boundaries of the territory so proposed to be annexed to the City of Anaheim and designated such territory as "BROOKHURST-KATELLA ANNEXATION" and gave notice of such annexation and fixed the 17th day of March, 1969, at the hour of 1:00 o'clock P.M. at the City Council of the City of Anaheim as the day, hour and place for hearing of written protests to said annexation and when and where any person owns property within such territory hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the City of Anaheim this 24th day of March, 1969.
