KNOWN LEGISLATOR AT WORK!
The space age is rapidly changing the whole direction of our national and state economy. Maintaining a healthy and increasing standard of living for our constituents is a prime responsibility for legislators. They must today, and lay sound foundations for tomorrow, so that no opportunity to take full advantage of the technological and economic developments of the space era lost to our state.
Legislative leaders have suggested that creation of the first international Space Age Exhibition, and establishment of first "Space Age Museum" be two great steps in putting our state out in front in the age science and development. Two interim committees, Senate fact-finding committee commerce and economic known leader in an important space age industry, the council will enlist the help and support of leaders in every field of science, industry, and civic activity concerned with preparation for the ultimate space age.
Recently the two interim groups held a combined meeting for preliminary discussions of the proposals for the space age exposition and museum. So much interest was displayed that the groups are now planning a series of public hearings in several parts of the state.
At their meeting, the committees were informed that the space age is advancing much more rapidly than any other economic, industrial or cultural revolution in human history. As one witness put it, "if the 30,000 years of known history could be crowded into one year, almost 98 percent of our technological progress would take place in the last two days of the year."
Advocates of the exposition declared that most developments of the space age will result from the work of the scientists, industrialists and technicians who are the school children of today. For that reason they believe the emphasis in any space exposition should be on the education of today's boys and girls. They listed seven good reasons why it would pay the state of California to sponsor a space age exposition, highlighting the facts that it would promote the establishment of thousands of new businesses and industries to serve the interplanetary age, and would create thousands of new jobs for skilled California workers. International participation should be worldwide.
Supporters of the space age museum claim that this project possesses even greater long range potential than the exposition itself. It would be likely to gain immediate public attention and support, and would be a valuable educational tool. The possibility of federal operation of the seum was also raised.
The groups were informed it might take three years to build the space expos but that it could be run for five years, and would at 50 million visitors from all the world. It was suggested it might be moved from city in the state, and that exhibits could be shown in similar communities, so that child could visit them.
The space age has come to California. It looks though your legislators want expose everybody to it—the end and safe way.
