Knowland praised the band's overseas success as a "California triumph in extending America's goddwill to foreign shores." BARBECUED CHUCK STEAK 2 boneless cross - rib chuck steaks, cut about 1½ inches to 2 inches thick (about 4 pounds in all) 2 tsps. meat tenderizer Barbecue Sauce (recipe below) Slash fat around edge of steak. Sprinkle on all sides of with meat tenderizer. Pierce meat deeply with long-pronged fork. Place in a shallow pan; pour Barbecue Sauce over, turning meat to cover thoroughly. Allow to stand at room temperature at least one hour. Drain meat. Place on broiler rack. Broil in preheated broiler four inches from heat 8 to 10 minutes on each side for rare; 10 to 12 minutes for medium. Baste frequently with sauce. Cut in thin slices. Serve on toasted buns to 8. LARGEST IN THE WEST—Huntington Beach Steam Station's first 200,000-kilowatt generating unit has now been placed in commercial operation by Southern California Edison Company. It is the largest steam electric generating unit ever built on the Pacific Coast. When an identical "sister" unit is completed by the end of this year, this one station will produce enough electricity to serve a city the size of Cleveland and will represent an Edison Company investment of about $58,000,000.
