Slow Driver Causes Cars to Pile Up
SACRAMENTO — Drivers who fail to keep right when driving slower than the normal speed of traffic on multi-lane highways are traffic law violators says the California Highway Patrol.
"Section 525.1 of the Vehicle Code requires a driver who is driving slower than the normal speed of traffic to keep in the right-hand lane or as near the right-edge as is practical," declared Patrol Commissioner B. R. Caldwell. "There would be less congestion and fewer accidents if all drivers would heed this rule."
Pile up Behind Loafer
"Frequently, cars pile up behind a driver loafing along in the passing lane, setting up accident potentials for every driver who endeavors to move with the normal flow of traffic," Caldwell said.
"Frequently, the slow driver who sets up the hazardous situation is not involved in the accident, nor is he always aware of the consequences of his act.
"To eliminate this condition, motorists must stay in the right-hand lane except when preparing to turn left or while overtaking and passing another vehicle," he concluded. "It is well to keep in mind that the driver who persists in driving slowly in the passing lane is a proper subject for a traffic citation."

Nationwide Plan
One Check per Couple Gets Trial
Most married couples in Orange county now receive their month-social security payments in form of one check for both male, according to Ralph A. Herman, district manager of San Antonio Social Security office. The change from individual checks to combined checks is part of a nationwide plan to improve service and cash saving.
Under the new combined check banks and post offices have at 1,700,000 fewer checks to be during the first of the rush period and for that reason are able to give better service. In addition, the social security trust fund is saving about a billion a year in the cost ofuge, check stock, envelopes, power, and other supplies.
Dillman pointed out that most couples in this area find the combined checks satisfactory and convenient; however, if there is any reason why such combined checks would result in an inconvenience, it is possible to receive them separately upon request.
