Telephone Makes Noise Messages
Hollywood has sound effects important in movie work and Pacific Telephone has sound effects which are essential to providing good telephone service, according to local manager Herb Perry.
Pacific's mechanical sound effects are made by machines on duty 24 hours a day, Perry said. Four distinctive sounds let telephone users know whether their calls are dialed correctly.
One of the machine-made noises sounds like a whooping siren. It tells the caller that he has dialed a number which doesn't exist.
Dial tone is the steady hum you hear when you pick up your receiver. This is the dial equipment's "number please" signal. Listen for it before dialing.
The ringing and busy signals are familiar to Anaheim telephone users. Within a few seconds after a number is dialed—if the line is not busy—you will hear the interrupted burr which tells you the called telephone is ringing. If the line is in use, you will hear the buzz-buzz-buzz.
Perry pointed out that calls will go through faster if dialed by number. He suggested keeping a list of numbers in a personal directory which can be obtained from any business office free of charge.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Rosary was said at Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel Monday at 8 p.m. with Mass Wednesday morning. Interment was in the Holy Sepulcher cemetery.
