Burnham, candidate for the office. The office of Coroner and Public Administrator is a combined administrative legal office. The administrative probate of estates is half the official duties, while supervision of necessary medical facilities and personnel to investigate deaths and to perform autopsies for medicolegal purposes is the other responsible half. Only four of California's 58 counties employ doctors as coroners. These four men devote full time to the duties of coroner, and have no public administrative duties. I feel qualified to handle the dual position because (1) I have been a deputy in the office of Coroner and Public Administrator for ten years; (2) I am a licensed mortician and embalmer, and (3) I intend to devote full time to the position. Because of the combined administrative duties, no one can handle the position while maintaining private practice of medicine or while engaging in any other business. SHOOTING MATCH SAN DIEGO—Competing in the Marine Corps Western Division Rifle and Pistol matches at San Diego, is TSgt. Smith D. Wade, son of Mrs. W. E. Warman of 9192 Stanton Ave., Anaheim, and husband of the former Miss Lugarda L. Pax of Niles. The Western Division matches, being held May 12-17, will determine the best marksman from Marine units west of the Mississippi, including those stationed in Japan and throughout the Pacific. SERVES ON DESTROYER MIDDLE EAST — Steve Orozco, interior communications electrician fireman, USN, of 2121 Crone Ave., Anaheim, is serving aboard the destroyer USS Massey with the U.S. Middle East Force in the Red Sea-Persian Gulf area. Before returning to her homeport, Norfolk, Va., early in July, the Massey will conduct training exercises with the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. The destroyer's crew has visited the ports of Djibouti, French Somaliland; Bahrain, Persian Gulf; and Karachi, Pakistan. MILTON HASELL Milton Lyman Hasell, 78, a native of Michigan and a resident of Stanton for 20 years, died Tuesday morning at his home, 7922 First Street, Stanton, after an extended illness. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Buena Park and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves his wife, Elsie M. Hasell; daughters, Mrs. William Bartlett of Anaheim and two daughters in the east; two grandchildren.
