'ALWAYS A GOOD DEAL Safe Fun For Boys A boy's first pocket knife can be as important an event as his first pair of long pants. And when Dad introduces him to its many uses, a whole new area of father-and-son companionship opens. Hunting with Dad? Make the shavings that will kindle the campfire. Fishing? Clean the scales and split the fillets. Building a model plane? Cut out the parts with precision—and save those steak knives. New clothesline to be rigged? Trim it to size for Mom. When you give your son his first pocket knife, advises Harry B. Hazelton, Sales Manager of Imperial Knife Associated Companies, Inc., give him a safety course, too. Teach him to: pull out only the blade he wants to use; wipe blades clean after using; oil the knife's joints; keep it out of the ground; sharpen it on an oiled stone, with a whittling motion, away from himself. Proceeds from the St. Jude Hospital Guild luncheon to be held at the Balboa Bay Club, Feb. 20, will augment the needy patient fund maintained by the Guild. A screening committee composed of Sister Jane Frances, hospital administrator, two doctors and two Guild members, pass on the recipients who are not eligible for county aid but are in need of temporary financial assistance. Whenever possible the monies advanced are repaid at a later date thus insuring continuance of the fund. "Spring Fashions" Final plans for the 12, noon luncheon-fashion show entitled "Spring Fashions" are now being made according to Mrs. Clifford Lakeman, over-all chairman. All fashions will be fully accessorized and the ten models include three Guild members, Mmes. David Best, C. R. Campbell, and Harold Small. Millinery featured will also be from American designers, proving once again that in the fashion line the United States does not need to take a back seat to any French designer. Music by Horton Trio For the third successive year the background music will be furnished by the Phil Horton trio, attesting to its popularity. Additional committee members who are busily at work under the direction of Mrs. Lakeman are: ticket sales and menu, Mrs. C. R. Campbell, decorations are in charge of Mrs. W. E. Milam, and her committee including Mmes. Fred Gorman and Donald Frink. Some of the work is also being done by Mr. Lakeman and Mr. Milam who have been pressed into service by their wives. Wood chips reclaimed from seven sawmills in Maine and New Hampshire annually are commercially used in place of trees that would occupy about 20,000 acres of woodland per year. Formerly the chips were discarded as waste. All Is Not Gold That Glitters!
