EDITORIALS Happy Days Are Here—Yet. Max Horn, California Bank vice president in charge of public relations, took strong issue with members of the Orange County Sales Executives Club, its panel of four and its moderator Monday night at the regular monthly meeting of the club when he spoke right up in meeting and said, "Money is NOT tight at the California Bank". Horn was referring to the subject of the meeting which had been presented to the group through the panel. The first of the year forecasts indicated a tightening up of business and a possible slowdown for the first part of the year. Taking these forecasts as a lead, the subject for discussion was, "How to Continue Your Business with Tight Money". "Business is still good at The California Bank and we are continuing to make business loans on good security as freely as we did last fall," Horn told the group. Other bankers, representing other banking institutions, were inclined to agree with Horn and go along with the theory that too much emphasis had been placed on the seasonal slowdown which almost invariably follows the rush of Christmas business. The Orange County Sales Executives Club is made up of sales managers representing industry, retail merchandising, and companies making intangible sales, in Orange County. These men are as alert to trends as the stock market. They have to be. Upon their judgment inventories are based and production is set. For that reason, to help these men in their sales work, the program on "tight money" had been planned. While panel members and the moderator, Dr. John Given, of the Los Angeles Junior College of Business, did not lead the thinking toward slowdowns, recession, depression, or call it what you will, the thought did prevail that more hard selling would be in order as inventories continued. and companies making intangible sales, in Orange County. While panel members and the moderator, Dr. John Given, of the Los Angeles Junior College of Business, did not lead the thinking toward slowdowns, recession, depression, or call it what you will, the thought did prevail that more hard selling would be in order as inventories continued to catch up with customer demands. It was encouraging to have a man like Max Horn, who knows the banking business and conditions in Orange County, step up with authority and make such an affirmative statement. He was followed by many other members of the club who endorsed the fact that business is good and "Happy Days are Here—Yet". But members agreed, however, that to keep good times here, and to keep sales at the present level, all salesmen must revalue their presentations and come up with, perhaps, stronger reasons to complete sales. The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce is now well organized under the leadership of its new president, Harry I Horn. Committees have been appointed and each committee has its own work outlined. Anaheim should see some outstanding results in the committee members move along with the new Anaheim program. All of this is going to take cooperation and it appears that the Chamber of Commerce has the cooperation, both from the city officials and from the retail and industrial members. Anaheim’s Chamber of Commerce has a good reputation, it has good will, it has proven in the past that it can take on a big project and come up with a finished production. The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce can and will be an important moving force in Anaheim this year. There is the program recommended for 1958. Industrial Development:—Continue research and development of literature that is needed for industrialists and visitors who are looking for new locations. Provide up-to-date maps showing all utilities and railroads and highways. Have members attend national industrial shows and conferences meet top management and sell them on Anaheim. Retail:—Complete formation of parking district. Work with property owners and merchants to modernize existing buildings, inside and out, with rear entrances from parking lots. Remove blighted areas from downtown locations:—We must do everything possible to complete this project successfully. It is the key to future Downtown Anaheim. Visitors and Conventions:—A need for a more compact up to centralize on Anaheim area and stimulate better travel and motel occupancy during the so-called “off season”. Public Transportation and Highways:—It is estimated that 80% of our people still do not have bus service within walking distance of their homes. Lincoln Avenue should be widened from Firestone to the city limits. Education and Culture:—Sponsor a business-industry education day. Give complete and energetic support to the establishment of a State College in Anaheim. 2 - Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Calif., Thurs., Jan. 23, 1958 Survey Shows Right-to-Work Laws Needed An organization to be known as The California League of Independent Voters, has been formed in Orange County with its headquarters at 10301 Perdido Street, Anaheim, according to George P.
