Disappearance of Shopping Carts Is Alarming Item to Super Marts
Shopping carts, disappearing at a rate of more than 1,000 each week, last year cost food market owners $1,671,750 in four southern California counties, an industry spokesman announced today.
"In many cases, cart losses cost more than bad checks, burglaries and robberies combined" he added.
A survey covering 534 markets in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino shows losses of 22,290 carts last year. Since these stores account for 40% of food sales in the area, total losses are estimated at 55,-725.

VFW AUXILIARY TO MEET
The next regular meeting of the VFW Auxiliary will be held at the VFW Hall on N. Philadelphia Street, Monday evening, Jan. 13, at 8 o'clock. Plans for the new year will be discussed and outlined. All members are urged to attend the planning session and take part in the work of the Auxiliary during the coming year.
DARMSTADT, GERMANY — Army PFC Richard L. Russell, 21, whose wife, Mary Lynn, lives at 1944 Redwood, Anaheim, recently participated with the 95th Engineer Battalion in a week-long river crossing and bridge building exercise on the Rhine in Germany.
Russell is a truck driver in the battalion's Company B. Overseas since May, he entered the Army in December 1956 and completed basic combat-training at Fort Ord.
The 1954 Anaheim High School graduate is a former employee of the Dixie Cup Co. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph R. Russell, live at 214 Clark Terrace.

Kappa Delta Mother's Club of UCLA will hold its first meeting of the new year at the Alpha Iota Chapter House on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10:45 a.m. Mrs. Ben Badgley, president, will preside and brunch will be served by Mmes. E. C. Averre, Francis Knope, M. V. Mattson, and R. H. Stringham.
