EDITORIALS Institutions of Higher Learning Orange County may point with justifiable pride to its three outstanding junior colleges. How fortunate Orange County residents are to have these three colleges so accessible for their high school graduates. The editor of The Gazette has received personal greetings from Dr. H. Lynn Sheller, director of Fullerton Junior College and from John "Sky" Dunlap, advisor to President John E. Johnson of Santa Ana College. With men of this type heading our schools of higher learning Orange county residents can rest assured that leadership in college work will be coming our way. From personal experience I know these men are not in the school business to build bigger buildings and increase tax loads. They are in these various communities to serve the patrons of the districts. They are anxious to, and do, cooperate with industrial concerns and businessmen. They work closely with civic clubs and church organizations. In fact, these men are leaders in community affairs and in youth programs. They are alert to modern thinking and planning and are 'way ahead of most of us in youth guidance. You'll see Dr. H. Lynn Sheller at various club meetings in Fullerton, Anaheim, Placentia and other nearby cities. He's known in business circles and he is talking with men and women in many walks of life to hear their needs for the coming years as they affect education. "Sky" Dunlap is about the busiest one person in Orange County. He's a fraternal friend of every newspaperman in Orange County. He's working with the college students every day to give them practical leadership and advice. Right now he is planning to take a group of Santa Ana journalism students to the state newspaper convention in Coronado in February. And he'll watch over these students like a mother he does her chickens. He's just that kind of a guy. And not to forget Orange Coast College where veteran Basil Peterson has guided this institution from a group of army barracks to its present development. These Orange county institutions of higher learning are moving forward with the times. They are staffed with competent faculty. County. He's a fraternal friend of every newspaperman in Orange County.
