Nat. Orange Show
Seeking Theme
A western theme is being sought for the 1958 National Orange Show to be held in San Bernardino this coming April 10 through April 20. The person submitting the most suitable theme, in opinion of the judges, will receive one hundred dollars in cash.
In addition to being a special honored guest at the coming forty-third annual citrus exposition, the contest closes midnight, Friday, Oct. 18.
Submitted themes should be short, preferably of two or three words and should lend themselves to varied interpretation for exhibit designers. A theme, to be eligible, must be plainly printed or typed, along with contestant's name and address, on the back of a standard U. S. Post Office two-cent postal card and made to the National Orange Show San Bernardino, Calif. Contests may submit as many thumbnails as desired, but only one thumbnail per postal card. In event of a tie, try bearing earliest postmark date declared winner.

Hiway Accidents In 5 Categories In Majority Cases
Five types of violations are most frequently noted in our traffic accident causes, says the California Highway Patrol.
"Excessive speed, violations of the right-of-way, driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side, of the road and improper turns make up the greatest number of driving errors noted in traffic accidents," declared Patrol Captain H. W. Null of the Anaheim area. "During the first eight months of this year 63 persons were killed and 1,727 injured in traffic accidents in this area.
"With the more hazardous months still ahead, every driver must take inventory of his or her driving habits," the Captain said. "The fact that about nine out of every ten traffic accidents are caused by one or more violations of the traffic laws should give us a measuring stick for our driving practices."
"Traffic laws are safety rules designed to protect the life of he who obeys them," he concluded. "Make obedience to the rules a habit and stop gambling your life by chance-taking in traffic."

The graduation exercises, marking the end of nine weeks of "boot camp", included a full dress parade and review before military officials and civilian dignitaries. In nine weeks of instruction, the "raw recruit" is developed into a Navy Bluejacket, ready for duty with the fleet.

Navy Lt. (jg) Donald T. Jackson,

718 S. Pine St., Anaheim, became
the first Navy pilot to win an individual "E" for excellence in the A4D "Skyhawk" Sept. 4. Serving with attack squadron 34 at the Cecil Field Naval Air Station,
