A2 - Anaheim Gazette Anahaim, Calif., Thurs., May 9, 1957 St. Jude's Guild Has Interesting Story (Continued from Page D) will assume the responsibilities of running the hospital as a public trust. In an effort to speed the plans for the badly needed hospital facilities, the North Orange County Hospital Association transferred title to seven and one-half acres of land owned by them on north Fullerton Road at Valencia Mesa Drive in Fullerton, to the Sisters, who also purchased an additional ten acres to allow for future expansion. The campaign then went into high gear and nearly every resident of the surrounding communities made donations. Service clubs, local businesses, aircraft plants, the oil industries of which Hubert Ferry, Vice-President of Union Oil Co., was chairman, manufacturing firms, of which Adolf Schoepe, President of Kwikset Locks, was chairman, responded generously, as the desperate need for a hospital was becoming greater, due to the rapid increase in population. On June 24, 1954, the goal was reached, and ground was broken October 3rd by Msgr. Thomas A. O'Dwyer, representing Cardinal McIntyre. Many local dignitaries were present to participate in and witness the blessing of the 17½ acre site. The Rev. Herman Mees Meyer, Fullerton Ministerial Association 40 Northern Orange Countians Aiding in Scout Fund Drive (Continued from Page 1) sists of John L. Bovee, Jr., chairman; Robert A. Daily, Dr. Lee C. Deming, Mel Ganer, Richard W. Gay, William Grey, Robert W. Mungall, Charles A. Pearson, Raymond D. Reafsyder, Oscar F. Schultz, Benjamin W. Stakemiller, William P. Webb, Earle T. Woodward, and Leo J. Fails. Walter Chaffee is chairman for Fullerton Memorial Gifts committee. Philip S. Twombly is serving as special aldea to this group which consists of Dr. W. T. Boyce, Hans H. Kohlenberger, Miles A. Sharkey, Merrill Gregory, Hugh Warden, Harold Muckenthaler, Stanley Chapman, Tom Gowen, Thomas J. Eadington, Herbert Bergen, and Hubert C. Ferry. The Brea Memorial Gifts committee is composed of H. J. Hagn, Frank Hall, W. J. Haney, and C. J. Schwartz. Harvey Stonehouse is serving as the chairman for the La Habra Memorial Gifts committee, and members of his group are Dr. R. Fernandez, Russell Knott, W. Guy Steel, and Eldon (Red) Knauss. Conger Thomson and S. James Tufffree are helping Mr. Knott in Placentia, and W. H. Barton, Howard Lanham, and George Kellogg are presenting the "Living Gift" memorial project plan to prospects in the Yorba Linda area. LEGAL NOTICE (Pub. Anaheim Gazette Apr. 25, May 2 and 9, 1957). Norton Donaldson, President of the Orange County Medical Association; Dr. Edward Russell, Orange County Health Commissioner; Harvey Stonehouse, general fund drive chairman, and Russell Knott, fund raising treasurer. This was the second important milestone in the hospital building project, which was tangible proof that the hospital was really underway. Now two and one-half years later, the dream is about to become a reality, and the third step will be the formal dedication ceremonies on Saturday, May 11th, with Cardinal James Francis McIntyre officiating. At the close of the program, invited guests will be asked to inspect the $2,200,000 structure. Members of the St. Jude Hospital Guild will act as hostesses and serve refreshments. On Sunday, May 12, which is National Hospital day, the hospital will be open to the public from 2 until 5 p.m., and on May 15, patients will be admitted and the new St. Jude Hospital will be a going concern. The Sisters of St. Joseph have built their spendid reputation upon Christian service to the sick and needy, and the hospital will be available to all, regardless of race, creed or color. According to Dr. John A. Wood of Anaheim, Chief of Staff, the hospital will have the latest improvements in equipment and will compare favorably with the newest class 'A' hospitals through Marion E. Flameless electric cooking keeps more juice in Roast Chicken keeps more juice in Roast Chicken licious only when it's juicy—but flame evaporates juice Here's why: ♦ Flame needs air to breathe. A flame-heated oven constantly inhales dry air, exhales moist air—literally cooks meat in a hot draft that evaporates good juices. But juice is the secret of flavor in meats, and especially in chicken. Nothing is more disappointing than a piece of dried-out white meat. Yet, in a flame-type oven, that's too often exactly what you get. But in a modern electric oven there's no draft of constantly changing air. Because there's no flame. You cook in moist heat, not dry heat. Result? More juice stays in the chicken. And the chicken tastes better. Electric cooking is cleaner, too. Your pots, pans and walls stay fresh and new far longer. And cooler. Electricity puts the heat in the food, not the kitchen. Actually, it's the only modern way to cook. See your electrical dealer soon. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Edison COMPANY electric cooking costs about $1.30 to $1.50 a month for a family of 4
