Toland, 27-years old, a draftsman, was engaged in layout work for lease buildings adjacent to Fullerton Municipal Airport, and in facilities work for the permanent plant, according to Harold Swenson, plant engineer. Toland is the first of hundreds of Orange County residents which Hughes expects to employ for its new ground systems division, most of them involved in engineering research and production of unique new electronic development. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Arizona State College, and was most recently employed in the design section of the Orange County Highways Department. He was attracted to the local area during a hitch with the Marine Air Control squadron at El Toro Marine Base. He plans to continue his education under the GI bill and the various educational programs offered employees by Hughes. Toland is married to a native of Fullerton girl, the former Janet Maynard, and they live with their two children at 9601 Kanton Ave., Anaheim.
